Just remember... he is only a junior... he could... conceivably... stay in school.

Not going to happen. He was on the Adam Schefter Podcast a week ago and pretty much said that this was his last year. Also, he stated that he had never been to NYC. A chance to play 5 hours from his hometown and an area that he is familiar with is going to be too appealing to him.

I hope your right.  But... how many times has a can't miss first rounder decided he wasn't going to play for team x or y?  He certainly has options...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

He can also not pan out. I get the Jags fan excitement though. It's been a while since there's been anything to cheer about.

They can also select either one of these guys and ruin their career. There's nothing about the Jags franchise that says they're striking lighting in a bottle by having the first pick in the draft for sucking this bad.

But the Jaguars have never had a franchise QB. This is much different.

"Franchise QB" is a practically meaningless phrase, but for some reason has taken off (especially with Jags fans as of late).

Dan Marino was a "franchise QB" (though I am not certain the term was really used then) and look what he got the Dolphins. I'm not saying Lawrence wouldn't be a great signing for the Jaguars (he seems likely to succeed in the NFL, though it's no guarantee), but if people really expect one QB to come in and suddenly turn this team around, they're (probably) crazy.

I saw this article and it made me really sad and embarrassed for Jacksonville:

QuotePotentially the greatest moment in the history of the Jacksonville Jaguars came on the same day they set a franchise record with their 14th consecutive loss after a 41-17 loss to the Chicago Bears.

The loss, coupled with the New York Jets' victory over the Cleveland Browns, means the Jaguars (1-14) have clinched the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL draft -- which they all but certainly will use to select Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

How lame is that? Getting the number one draft pick is "Potentially the greatest moment in the history of the Jacksonville Jaguars"? It should be maybe a sliver of hope to cling onto in a dark time. Not something to celebrate. When your team has had fewer than 10 winning seasons in its 25 years history and manages to completely implode after making it to the conference championships, you shouldn't be celebrating finally reaching the bottom of the barrel.

But I guess people look at these things different. And it's just a game and none of this really matters. But still...

He definitely has options. With that said, the last first round QB prospect that decided he wanted to play for another team was Eli Manning. With the rules in the CBA, this is a very unlikely scenario that he would be drafted and sit out.

When I say franchise QB, it means that you have a QB that will be your QB for the next 10-15 years (barring injury). That last can't miss first pick QB was Luck.

^No one knows if Lawrence will pan out in Jax. We all hope but I wouldn't start placing bets that he'll be Jax's starting QB for the next 10-15 years or that it will amount to the Jags getting back to the playoffs. That team is full of glaring holes that need to be filled.

I never said anything about playoffs or Super Bowl. Matt Stafford has been the Lions QB for over 10 years. He is their franchise QB. It is imperative that a team has stability at QB in order to have the chance to succeed.

Lawrence is a generational talent and practically a video game creation. Many people were already projecting him as the number one pick in this draft during his sophomore in high school when was already good enough to start in bigtime college football and was the hottest recruit in years. He was NFL ready after his freshmen year and would have been the number 1 pick then. He's the best QB prospect to come out of college since Peyton Manning and some think he's the better talent of the two.

If he ends up not having a great career, it's likely due to something off-field or injuries. I don't think even the Jags can mess this one up. That said, they are still going to have to add a lot of quality pieces around him in order to be competitive.

I responded to this, but it seems to have disappeared. I apologise for any duplicate posts.

Anyway - Luck managed six seasons with the Colts and didn't really accomplish anything with them. I appreciate that his time was cut short due to injury, but I cannot see why it is taken as fact that he was a 'franchise QB'. Nothing is guaranteed in football and any promising player might have his career cut short or see his performance dip over time.

And look at Tom Brady. He was (I think) a sixth-round pick and ended up being one of the greatest of all time (and definitely a franchise QB). Or Steve Young - a guy who looked like he probably would never live up to his potential who ended up being a Hall of Famer after a brilliant second (or third) act in his career.

Maybe Lawrence will be what the Jags need to suddenly become the team their fans seem to think they are. I suppose the Jaguar fan optimism is a good thing - every year is a 'rebuilding year' and next year will definitely be the 'one'.

If he's really that great, he'll be smart enough to refuse to play for Jacksonville and force a move to a better team.

I understand the pessimism with the Jags but what team would be a better opportunity for him.

Well, I *would* like to say the Dolphins. But beyond that - any of a number of teams. I think New England - they have a proven track record and need a good QB.

He need to go somewhere that will support him and provide him with the opportunity to have a great career. Jax are terrible and don't seem to know how to win.

It would be like Harry Kane choosing to play for Fulham. If he's going to leave Spurs, he's not going to go play for some pub league side just because they will pay him a lot. He's going to go somewhere to win trophies and set records.

This. He checks every box from talent evaluating standpoint. I'm just thrilled for the city and the fans. Having had a client with the Chiefs in 2018 & 2019. It was amazing to see how much a franchise QB can invigorate an entire area.

I think he'll be a good fit in Jacksonville. He's a low-key guy from suburban Atlanta, is a Christian, and is engaged to his high school sweetheart. He'd probably prefer living in Jax to at least half the NFL cities.
