QuoteIt seems EVERYONE that was released have disappeared.

I mostly agree, but losing Daryl Smith sucked big time.

Signing Vick would have signaled to me the Jags were going to draft Johnny Smurf, and take the offense in a different direction.

I agree that Vick is the better QB.  But he won't be the mentor to a young gun.  Vick wants to start and stay there.  He would be polarizing on a number of issues.  I don't see the Jags going in that direction.

I'm not sure Henne is much of a mentor either. At least not if you're hoping to groom someone that will lead you past an 8-8 record.  I'm just hoping the Jags go in a completely different direction that what people have been witnessing the last few years.

He's only polarizing to the self righteous.

I'm as live and let live as they come, but it blows my mind that anyone could cheer Vick.

From the New York Times:

QuoteVick was the mastermind behind his dogfighting operation. He bankrolled it, gave it a home base, encouraged it.

In the backyard of his Virginia home were mass graves of pit bulls that had fought for him or had been torn apart serving as bait dogs in practice sessions. The surviving dogs were found barely alive, beaten, starved, tortured and chained to concrete slabs.

There was Georgia, a caramel-colored beauty who had all 42 of her teeth pried from her mouth so she wouldn't fight during forced breeding. There was Ellen, who managed to retain her fuzzy cuteness even when half of her face drooped because of the nerve damage caused by fighting.

There was Cherry, a black-and-white tiny ball of fur, with a craggy pattern of thick, deep scars from chemical burns on his back. When I visited him and 21 other Vick dogs at the Best Friends Animal Society sanctuary in 2008, he continued to tremble even as I petted him gently for more than an hour.

And those were some of the lucky ones. Dogs that did not perform well for Vick were drowned, electrocuted, shot. He admitted to holding dogs while a noose was placed over their heads, then dropping those dogs to their deaths.

Once, he and a friend grabbed the paws of a little red dog and held it over their heads, like a jump rope, slamming the animal on the ground again and again until it was lifeless.

I'm not even posturing, I would ask for a refund or give away my tickets before I'd support a team led by Michael Vick.

I think mentoring goes well beyond your on the field abilities. In fact I would say it is much more off field.  How you are respected by your teammates, how you study/prepare during the week and carry yourself.  And from what I have heard while his on field abilities leave much to be desired he is highly thought of in these other areas and hence why viewed as a good mentor. And as said earlier I think he really knows his role is to be a bridge to the next quarterback.

I too have heard Henne is a man of good character and a solid role model. These are good qualities in a football player.

Seems like like most applaud the Jags picking up Seattle's DE Red Bryant. The book on him is that he's not much of a pass rusher, but he's a very good run stuffer, and moves well for a big guy.

I think thats the part everybody misses about that particular DE position. (not you, just speaking in general. LOL) They are run stuffers, so they wont have many sacks. I think him, Alualu, and Abry will be a good rotation at that position.

Bryant is also a locker room leader... and very familiar with Gus Bradley's methods...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I hear ya. I'm a Hurricane's fan who loved what the team represented in the 1980s, so my perspective is somewhat different. You could suck as a human but if win me games on a consistent basis, I'm a happy camper.

QuoteA football player doesn't need to be a little angel for a team from the NFL to want him. It's like Jimmy Johnson once joked, back when he was coaching the Miami Dolphins: "I'd draft Charles Manson if he ran a 4.4 40[-yard dash]."

Vick's past with dogs doesn't bother me. He's served his time, moreso than half of the wife beaters and drug abusers playing in the game today.  From my perspective, I'd be more concerned about his health, since he's only completed one full season in his career.

Good luck with that. Henne's career started off in Miami. Good guy but he's not getting anyone to the promised land and the experiement with Gabbert didn't turn out too well.

Just heard on the radio that Jason Babin has decided to opt out of his remaining two year contract in order to look for better money elsewhere ... Is this true?? I always liked him and thought management did too. If it is true, seems like he's walking just when he's hitting his stride.

I would be very surprised if he busts out with some significant sack total in 2014. He was originally drafted to be a DT with the Seahawks, then they later moved him to DE. He's been playing since 2008, and has only 3.5 career sacks. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that he's a liability by no means. He's gonna make a helluva difference in the locker room (like Bridge Troll said), pressuring the QB by pushing the pocket (although it might not correlate to hella sacks). Also he's a much needed RB tackling machine on the line. IMO a surprise high sack total for 2014 would just be a cherry on the cake. :)

Damn, I forgot that today (at 4:00 PM) is the first day of NFL free agency!
