I think thats the thing. People know we are sensitive about the Jags. (fans and the city). After the abuse we have endured since the inception of the team it is expected.  So when an AFL team (which is not even REAL football) takes a jab at their own city, thats someone like a slap in the face. Not to mention the Jags recognized them for the winning the arena bowl. We'll see if that will happen again.. Probably not if they keep playing like they did last night.

I still wanna know, someone tell me what smaller league team other than the Sharks make fun of the big league team in the same city (concerning the Big Four, NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL)? Because apparently this is SO commonplace, and it's a harmless little jab; I'm not buying that at all, I'm with Wacca on this one, screw the Sharks!

It's also not a first, because the Sharks broadcast team and FB page were fanning "the Jaguars always lose" flames last season even as the Jaguars did a recognition ceremony for the Sharks' championship at a Jag game.

Seems to me the Sharks are trying to tap into the same group of fans that ascribe to the "Jaguars are losers, can't wait for them to move, Tim Tebow is a winner, this is Gators town!" line.  (DISCLAIMER: this does not in any way, shape, or form apply to people who are both loyal Jag fans and loyal Gator fans.)

And as far as I'm concerned, fanning anti-Jaguars sentiment is destructive to Jacksonville's national image and for that reason, isn't the least bit funny.

Bingo! Well said.

The mentality in this city is a very strange one. We sport the minor legaues, and bash the major leagues. Very strange for a city who keeps claiming they are not country. People in this city indeed thing very small. I have friends who stay in city that dont have an NFL team and always tell me how lucky we are. One friend from Oklahoma was just amazed at the size of our stadium alone. He said, "OMG we dont have nothing like this back home. That shit is huge." But it is what it is. Well see how long the sharks play before they fold and disappear again.

I agree that this city is strange concerning fan support. It's like on SFR with Dan & Jeff Rah, Rah Gator, and borderline, anti Jaguar BS is supposed to be just 'harmless playful jabs' at the Jaguars. I get people like yourself who are Jags fans, and aren't turned off by the Sharks antics, but that thing just struck a nerve with me. Far as I'm concerned, it's like the Sharks might as well said "Hey Jags, go f*@k yourself".

I don't care if anyone isn't a Jaguar fan because they don't care for football, or root for a team from somewhere else, or whatever.  No one would ever suggest mandating being a fan, and I doubt anyone has a problem with people who just don't care for the Jaguars.  E.g., Adam W. thought it was corporate welfare to lure an NFL team - I don't agree but I understand his point of view.

I and the other loyal Jag fans have a problem with people in Jacksonville who think it's hilarious to constantly put down the Jaguars because that contributes to a national public black eye for the city.  It's not because they're putting our team down, it's because the national press constantly wants to cast Jacksonville as a city unable to support pro sports, more of a minor league and college place.  I can't stand that contempt for the city.

When people make insanely unfounded jokes about the Thuguars, call them losers, laugh that they'll be glad if the Jaguars move, et al., they're reinforcing a media meme that is used to degrade the city.  I don't have a problem with the degradation of the franchise; I have a problem with the degradation of the city.  I especially have a problem with the fact that people seem to have embraced and parroted the "Jaguars to L.A. is inevitable" media idiocy from people who don't have a clue about the situation, or seem to have turned on the team out of some kind of mental preparation for this perceived inevitable event.

I use to support the Sharks not because I like arena football but because of the they are JACKSONVILLE sharks..If they don't support other jacksonville teams then I won't support them too.

kells904

Well if it's any cosolation, the Sharks' played like complete ass last night, especially the QB.  A million dump-passes in the flat, and chucking it deep off his back leg and hoping for the best.  He either got bailed out by his WRs or it was intercepted.  We left at halftime.

I didn't see this sign, but even if the mascot was holding such a thing, it's not that big a deal to me.  So little brother takes a cheapshot at big bro?  He's still "little brother", always will be.

Is there ANY evidence that the supporters of the negatives of this entire BS rubbish thing outnumbers the people of the positive things including true Jaguar fans, community supporters, etc?

There is no "evidence" Josh, but as humans people would rather find the negative in things, than look at the positive. Negativity is like cancer that wont stop spreading.

No doubt... ::)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

100% agree..It was the mascot holding up a sign that didn't even make it on Ch17. So what? It was a joke. In fact it was probably the only funny thing that happend all night. One of the coolest things that happened though, that I have not seen anyone mention, is during the National Anthem, since the singers microphone wasn't working, little by little the fans in the arena started singing along and by the end it was probably better than half the people there singing along. I thought that was just cool as hell.

QuoteBeing that Arena football is equivalent to flag football, and not to mention the AFL are NFL rejects. I'm not offended by it, but why would you trash to another football in your city same versus a team in the AFL. and lets see you get zero national recognition for an arena bowl, but worldwide recognition for a superbowl. The Sharks could stop p[laying tomorrow and it would have Zero effect on this city

Isn't the Sharks new QB the once famous Chris Leak from UF? I thought I read where he went from the CFL to AFL and its a lot different for him. For me, the Sharks are a nice Spring/Summer minor league distraction from the real event in the fall. Khan could have bought the entire AFL league for what he paid for the Jags, so it seems to me that he knows where the real business of football is in Jax.
