maybe folks would prefer that our defense not improve from #26 to #6

Another poorly written, uninformed, stupid article. Need I say more. Timmy would well in Jacksonville just make sure you bring his O-line and receivers right along with him.

Couldn't agree more.

So it seems the Jags will hire Mike Mularkey as the new coach... How do you guys feel about that? Not an exciting move at all in my book. I personally was hoping that hired the OC from the Panthers. Not only did he make Cam look good, he did a good job with Derek Anderson in Cleveland.

Just saw that. I didn't see it coming, but I'm optimistic. It could be a great fit. He was instrumental in turning the Falcons offense around over the past few years.

As long as its not Del Rio I'm happy! LOL But we shall see. You never know how someone is going to do until they get the job. He also stated he wanted to keep Tucker as the DC so that's a win IMO. So I'm sure they will be grabbing tucker first thing tomorrow being Minnesota is trying to snag him. How can they interview for their DC position and they dint even have the opening yet? That's odd.  So I expect Tucker to get a lovely contract this week.

But I noticed as fans we dont see things like the organization does. I'm sure the fans in NE had a cow when Bill was hired because he had little to no success as a head coach before coming to NE. So hey.. I just let them do their job and HOPE they are right. Regardless, I'm excited about change for sure.

He was my second choice behind Chudzinsky.  I guess it probably came down to experience and comfort levels.

After trolling a few Atlanta websites, it really hits home how much this is truly a 'what-have-you-done-for-me-lately' league.  The dude won lots of games and was instrumental in making the Falcon's relevant again after the Vick fiasco, but no one can seem to get past the drubbing they took by the Giants last week.  They've been in the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years and won the division in '10 - doesn't seem like a bad track record to me.

People keep referencing to his departure in Buffalo, how he was fired after a 5-11 season.  Like most of the fans around here, I wish people would do just a hint of fact checking before shooting off at the hip.  He resigned.  He didn't like the direction the franchise was going and didn't see eye-to-eye with ownership, so he left.

QuoteBuffalo BillsIn 2004, Mularkey left the Steelers and was hired by the Buffalo Bills to succeed Gregg Williams as the team's head coach. Mularkey started out his first campaign as Bills head coach with a record of 0â€"4. He rallied his team to a 9â€"7 record by the end of the season, however, sparked by a six-game winning streak during which the Bills scored more points than in any other similar stretch in franchise history. Overall they were 7th in the league in total offense. This has been their last winning season to date.

His second season in Buffalo was far less successful. Dogged by a quarterback controversy between J.P. Losman and Kelly Holcomb and a series of defensive personnel problems, Mularkey led the team to a 5â€"11 finish and a sixth consecutive year out of the playoffs - the longest such active streak in the AFC. Mularkey's offensive schemes continued to be touted by then general manager Tom Donahoe, despite the lack of production, finishing 24th in total offense.

On January 12, 2006, Mularkey resigned as head coach of the Bills, citing a disagreement in the direction of the organization, which had recently hired new management including ex-coach Marv Levy.

The other thing that I'm reading (not a fact) is that he's open to keeping Mel Tucker on, and to me, that's huge, especially if he allows Tucker to keep Joe Cullen and the rest of his staff.  The job they did last year was extraordinary and if they have a full offseason with the same group of guys....  We have the chance to be absolutely dominant.

Good things ahead.  Looking forward to the start of FA and the draft.

Go Jags!

Yes. He resigned in Buffalo because of differences he had with Marv Levy.

He was the best fit. Previous head coaching expeirence, very good with offense and has help develop a rookie QB> Sounds like the right man to me.

2 points in the playoffs kind of scares me though. How did his offense not score? They have Julio Jones?

^It's really short sighted to look at only one poor game out of all the years he's been successfully coaching the Ravens' offense. Especially considering that the game was a playoff game, which we haven't seen in a while; that Mularkey was instrumental in turning the Falcons' struggling offense into one of the league's best, something we desperately need; and that he is credited with coaching Matt Ryan into a formidable quarterback, and BG clearly needs the work.

His team didn't achieve 'FULL KHANSISTENCY'.  I guess no one's allowed an off-day, I mean, it was MM that was missing his targets by several yards when he threw the ball.  And MM did keep getting stuffed in the backfield every time MM tried to run because he had missed a block.

Just raggin' you a bit.  It was one game.  How's this:  43-21, 2 W/C berths & 1 Div champ in 4 years.  His 0-3 record in the playoffs might be a concern, but look at the teams he played:  '08 - Cardinals - went to SB and almost beat the Steelers.   '10 - Packers - Won the SB.  '11 - Giants - The hottest team in the NFC who I predict will beat the Pack this weekend.

He's gotten steamrolled in the playoffs, but (we'll see this year) every team he's played went on to the SB.

:D

The Jaguar message board's reaction to the hire is predictably embarrassing.  Thank goodness for Metro Jacksonville and Big Cat Country for some actual informed and reasoned discussion.

I'll reserve my judgement until I see how the rest of the coaching staff fills out. Really at the end of the day, most coaches are only as good as the talent they are coaching. Put JDR as the head coach of the Pats or Packers, and they still would be in the playoffs. Only GREAT coaches can coach up bad talent and honestly that's what we've had for the past few years. I don't believe Mularkey is a 'great' coach, but if we sign some good free agents... WR's, a backup QB that's actually worth his salt, have a good draft and people come back from the IR healthy next season... I think we will be more than competitive. Otherwise, I don't see much of anything changing.

I avoided it at all cost. The under 80 IQ crew probably took over the place last night. Pete Prisco didn't like the hire, which isn't a surprise. He is friendly with Matt Ryan and Mike Smith. Pete is blaming the Falcons poor performance on Sunday on Mularkey while giving his two buddies a free pass. Which is funny. Because he spent the last five years blasting the head coach and quarterback of this team while giving the OC (Koetter) a free pass.
