QuoteLOS ANGELES â€" Patrick Swayze has died after a nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Swayze's publicist Annett Wolf says the 57-year-old "Dirty Dancing" actor died Monday with family at his side. He came forward about his illness last spring, but continued working as he underwent treatments.

It was 1987 when Swayze became a star with his performance in "Dirty Dancing," a coming-of-age story set in a Catskills resort. The 1990 film "Ghost" cemented his status as a screen favorite.

Swayze played a murdered man trying to communicate with his fiancee through a spirit played by Whoopi Goldberg.

He kept on working even after it was disclosed in March 2008 that he had a particularly deadly form of cancer. He starred in "The Beast," an A&E drama series, and said he and his wife were working on a memoir.

Compete. Evolve. Survive or Die.

Terrible. From the little that I know...(and I know a little as my wife has just beaten breast cancer at 37) it is one of the quickest spreading and most non-treatable of cancers. RIP,  Mr. Swayze.   :(

That was classic. One of my favorite SNL bits ever.

I figured this may be a good place to post this, I didnt really want to start a new thread for something like this. Steamworks in 5PTS is having "Swayze Crazy" -- A Tribute To Patrick Swayze tonight (9/17). My buddy Thomas is DJ tonight. Not sure what he has in store but my guess is some Dirty Dancing jams. It's also Steamworks regular "Ladies Night".

Does anyone remember an episode from MASH back in the 70's when a very young actor named Patrick Swayze played a wounded soldier. He and his buddy were both at 4077 and Swayze wanted to donate blood to his buddy. Blood tests were taken and Hawkeye had to tell the soldier (Swayze) that he could not give blood because he had luekemia. How ironic was that?
