Hello guys and gals,

Can you recommend a place to get my car windows tinted?  I'm looking for a few to call and get quotes, but I'd like the place I choose to at least come recommended by someone with experience at that particular tint shop.

There are a lot around, surely one is better than the next.  The one across the street from me closed down this past weekend.  :(  I spoke with him today and he said that business has just dried up in the past few months.  He recommended Tint Specialists over on St. Johns Bluff Rd.  He told me they taught him everything he knows over the years from working there.  He eventually opened up the store on Argyle Forest Blvd.

Thanks for the input.  Keep on rocking Jax...  8)

Similar question: My windows are tinted but how hard is it to strip and re-tint? My rear window's tint kinda went all wavy and it's hard to make fine details out. I also went with the legal limit and it is pretty pathetic at keeping out the heat, so I want to darken it a bit. Not limo tint but enough to block that summer heat out.

4 door cars can go 28% on the driver and passenger windows, darker on the rears.

Windshield  Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 28% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 15% of light in.
Rear Window Must allow more than 15% of light in.

You can go darker with medical justification.

Using a heat gun (or hair dryer) and a hot summer day, its easy to peel the tint right off. Then use a heavy ammonia base solution to trip the gunk off of the glass with a non abrasive pad.

As far as recommendations, only word of mouth shops. I had a friend tint mine.

I'm going with Tint Specialists on St Johns Bluff Rd.  I'll report back on my experience.

After waiting the prerequisite 3-4 days of curing and drying, I'm happy to report a positive experience.  The tint looks great.  The shop, run by two guys (Kevin and a gent who's name escapes me), is clean.  They were professional and eased any hesitations I had about letting someone touch my baby.  They have been doing tinting services for 18 years, so their experience is deep.

I recommend The Tint Specialists on St. Johns Bluff Rd if you are in need of window tinting.
