Newbie checking in from Arlington

 Hello, I found you while Googleing some local history. I saw you had a parks and rec. forum with an active fishing thread and well, God wants me here.
I live in Old Arlington and most of my free time is spent on the river or in the woods. My girlfriend and I do a lot of hiking and recently discovered geocaching- we're having a great time with it. We also know the river quite well and spend a lot of time fishing/boating the areas between the Fuller Warren and Dames Point.
I'm a carpenter by trade and these days have a little more time than usual on my hands so.....looking forward to learning and sharing with y'all.

Welcome to the Forums Bobsim. I just have to know, how well does the boat plane? Have you figured out a min. HP to get it up to plane? What is the current HP on your outboard? How long did it take to build? Was it a kit boat?

Okay, so I'm a pest, but my dad built a boat in our carport in Ortega. I think it was like 21 feet long, all wood construction, inboard, with a 1960 (something), Chrysler V-8 of about 400 cu in.. Talk about flying down the river.

  stjr, thanks for the links. I've been all over the Old Arlington site lately, we are in the process of posting several geocaches around Arlington (seven to date) on a historical theme. One is titled "ferry landing" and hides at the Arlington Rd. boat ramp, others include Clifton/Sammis Cemetery, Bigelow cemetery, JM&P RR, Norman studios, and the two two cemeteries exclusive to the black community Arlington and Mt. Zion. We have more planned and have learned a lot, I live three blocks from the old Arlington cemetery and just learned it was there!
  OCKLAWAHA, I love this boat. No kit, it was built from plans from the Cape Fear Museum in Wilmington, N.C. I have a 40hp. on it (max. is 45) and rarely use it all. I've heard reports of this hull planing with a 10hp., mine is 18'6" and with motor weighs 600lb.(+-.) The designer/builder incorporated a "hook" in the stern to aid in planing by minimizing bow rise. I was down with an ankle injury in 2007 and built her in four months working about fifty hours a week. Here's a link if you want some more history:
