FYI: First Coast Pride cancelled this year

The organization doesn't have enough funds to operate a pride fest this year, so we're screwed. I just don't understand how it went from a very large event 10-15 years ago, to dwindling to nothing. This is pretty damn sad to say the least. I'm probably going to get ahold of the person in charge and ask, what can I do to help. There has to be a way to get some business and/or corporate backing. People, we've got to get this back, it is time for the gay community here to say, "We need help to keep our pride afloat!"

I don't find it particularly surprising. Then again, I've always seemed to be out of town for Jax's pride, with the exception of last year. Keep us apprised.

They must be able to throw something together for goodness sake. Macy's is usually always a pride sponsor in other cities. It was nice a couple of years ago when they had it one weekend at the beach and one weekend in town with a dance party at 5 point. I would think a parade would be easy enough. Even the Indian and Filipino groups were able to support a parade/event this year. The gays have to be able to dig into their pockets for something??

^^^My bad Stephen. I had confused "First Coast Pride" (The Gay event that I was unaware of) with "Freedom, Fanfare, and Fireworks". I believe that Miami, and G-ville has canceled their fireworks displays, and there was some talk of Jax's being cancelled, but it will go on July 1-5; That's what I confused this thread with. I need to start reading the threads more thoughly; I had removed my previous clueless post. I have no thoughts on First Coast Pride.

These events have been around forever years, and been struggling for the past few years. If the money isnt there, they arent going to happen obviously. Its all by donations.

Astonished people care The First Coast Pride Festival has been canceled! To the few who stand for tolerance and freedom by giving of time, talents or resources you have my respect. I am sorry the community chooses to chastise and belittle I am reminded of what my mom thought me you get out of something what you put into it. The majority of the First Coasts community is getting exactly what they put into the festival NOTHING!

Just FYI, some of actually give a damn about what has happened. Apparently you have no good input so you decided, and failed, to speak about something that you apparently have no real knowledge of, making you look like a dumbass. Half of your rant makes absolutely no grammatical sense at all, so even I can't understand. First ever post fail as well for you my friend.

I had no idea Jacksonville did anything pride related.
