Theres a movement on facebook to rename the city in memory of Michael Jackson. I thinkk its good idea worth looking into. I didnt know president Jackson but historically, he wasnt involved in our city, probably didnt even know it existed and the Jacksons actually lauched a world tour here, doing multiple concerts. Old man Jackson will probably be noted for killing a lot of indians, native americans, mostly floridian. Michael will be remembered as the most famous person, ever. What are your opinions?

Yeah, I want my parent's street renamed to Kurt Cobain cul-de-sac.

Jacksonville is already long enough as it is when writing it out on forms.

:D This is a great thread!  :D  How about we rename all of our various parts of town after famous people.  Westside could become Skynrdville... :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Ohhh, bridgetroll thats a good one, really we re on to something!

i think the famous need to be actually linked to cowford in some way, thats what makes Skynrdville work.
Since the city is determined to destroy our past heritage, we just as well define our future history. Now.

Since we're naming stuff after local bands, can I rename my street Evergreen Terrace?

I think we can auction out the name of various parts and of course the name of the city will fetch more money. To change the name of Perry, Pearl, Silver, Laura to Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa will probably bring in some tourist money for Springfield. The question is: will anyone buy the name rights of our streets?

I don't think so!  As much as I like Michael Jackson, I think naming the City partly after him is a bad idea, and, it sounds corny anyway.

I guess shantytown could be renamed moe's tavern and the the gas station on 8th can be the quickie mart

Jason

All gas stations are "quickie marts" in my book.  Hell, some of them actually sell quickies (well unofficially)!

Skynrdville is perfect for the westside.  The Mathews bridge should then be called the Bizkit bridge, and we'll need a "Nookie" district downtown for the Yellowcard Tavern.

The Buckman would be more suitably named the "F***man".

And I've always called Orange Park the Orange Parking Lot.

If I am remembering correctly, Andrew Jackson selected Jacksonville as a Federally designated deepwater port of entry over another competing city or two...can't imagine what might have led him to that conclusion...
The tourist would realize at once that he had struck the Land of Flowers - the City Beautiful!

I really hope this is someones idea of a bad joke. I'm sick to death of Michael Jackson being shoved down our throats. If ever there would be a reason to move out of this city it would be this. I hope this idea dies a quick death.

Pretty funny... but still not as good as the Optimus Prime Osborn Convention Center that Jax Confidential did a ways back.  Hilarious.

if the city change to MichaelJacksonville, the Michael Jackson estate might sue the city for infringe on the naming rights instead of paying for advertising. I smell bad drama all over it. On the other hand, there might be some other entity in need of advertising because they are not yet famous. I remember a few years ago a town changed its name for a big sum of money but I do not remember where.
