Quote2-Alarm Fire Halts Traffic On Beach Blvd.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A two-alarm fire at a business on the Southside has forced police to close Beach Boulevard near Art Museum Drive.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue spokesman John Bracey said people were evacuated before the roof of the business collapsed.

Doesn't say anything about what the building was though.

The news just said it was the building next door to the headquarters.

The first coast news reported:
"The fire happened at a building just west of Beach Boulevard and Emerson. There are two businesses there. One is called Jaguar Builders, Inc., a general contractor. The other is Accessibility Specialists, Inc., which retrofits vans and vehicles for the disabled.

Firefighters say two people were working inside when the fire began in the back of the building."

I figured those abortion protester freaks burned down the abortion clinic, or whatever that building is, that they are always roosting outside of with nothing better to do.

Florida Times Union:
Beach Blvd. warehouse catches fire; 90 firefighters on scene
By Matt Coleman Story updated at 5:27 PM on Thursday, Apr. 23, 2009

Close to a hundred Jacksonville firefighters responded to a warehouse fire on Beach Boulevard that sent one man to the hospital.

The Southside building’s roof collapsed, but most of the 2:10 p.m. fire had been put out by 3 p.m. All directions of Beach had to be closed between Carmichael Avenue and Emerson Street, and a large plume of black smoke could be seen for miles. Witnesses said flames were shooting out of the roof up to 20 or 30 feet.

Fire department spokesman John Bracey said the fire was called in first by a passing rescue truck.

The warehouse is attached to a building that houses Jaguar Builders and Accessibility Specialists in the 4900 block of Beach Boulevard. Bracey said the warehouse ignited so quickly that triple the normal number of firefighters was required to put it down. Almost 30 fire-department vehicles, including eight ladder trucks, were at the scene.

Firefighters were still monitoring the building at 3:30 p.m. to snuff out any remaining fires. Two people were inside the building when the blaze ignited, and one man in his 40s was taken to a hospital for observation, Bracey said.

Toni Mettles, an office manager with Jaguar Builders, said the warehouse stored many paper files. She said the two people inside the building were her coworkers.

A fire department rehabilitation camp was set up in a shaded parking lot at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Taunton Road. No firefighters were injured while combating the blaze.

About 1,900 people in the  surrounding area were without power at 4 p.m., according to the JEA Web site.
