Brooklyn redevelopment on hold; property for sale

The TU confirms what had been mentioned here a few months ago.  Ron Barton has high hopes, but you can stick a fork in this one.

Hard times have hit the sweeping urban redevelopment plan for Jacksonville’s historic Brooklyn area that was to include a $250 million complex of 800 apartments, a hotel and 50,000 square feet of retail space on 12.5 acres that had once been at the heart of an 1800s-era Jacksonville suburb. The developer of Brooklyn Park has put three-fourths of the project’s land up for sale.

But, Barton said, there isn’t all bad news to be had in Brooklyn. A Hallmark Partners office and condominium project on Riverside Avenue adjacent to the Miles land is still on track for construction, he said.

Anyone have any idea of when these guys plan to move forward?

My GOD! HAHA.  That is hilarious and yet horribly frightening at the same time because I can almost see it happening.  Would it not be an absolutely perfect (and very sad) commentary on the 'suburbia in the core' mentality to tell a visitor "Over here is the very successful RAM.. and a couple blocks down you have your Super Wal-Mart...

And...this is basically what happened to downtown Jacksonville in the 60's, 70's and 80's..."dynamite and implode it and they will come!"

Wow!  If we had a Walmart there I wouldn't have to drive from DT to Emerson St.  I could just walk to Brooklyn.

This always seemed too good to be true.  Is this Hallmark partners the group of attorneys that was going to build and move from the Southbank?

Well that proposal has been on the table for give or take 10 years, if I am not mistaken.  if it hasn't been 10 years , it sure FEELS like it.

Right after they finish the huge pile of CROW on their table with Mayor Peyton and Ron Barton sitting next to them.

Wal-Mart does not setup shop where the closest residential neighborhood is over a mile away. Sad, Brooklyn really isn't a neighborhood anymore.

Well, it looks like we will have another 10 years of vacant land and no Skyway expansion for Riverside.
