A Jacksonville man was shot  in the jaw and abdomen Wednesday after armed robbers kicked open the front door of his home.

The 23-year-old victim was in his room at the Hollybrook Home Apartments in the 100 block of King Street with a 20-year-old woman he lived with when they heard the front door burst open about 10:45 p.m. The woman said one robber carried a pistol and the other toted a "chopper," which a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office incident report defined as an AK-47.

A few hours earlier and a couple blocks away, another man was stabbed multiple times. Sgt. Dan Janson said the stabbing occurred in the 3600 block of Post Street about 8 p.m. The victim was taken to Shands Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries.

wow, and here I thought Springfield was rough.

what I find interesting is that Riverside was not mentioned in the article, but you could bet dollars to doughnuts that if this happend in SPR it would have been in the headline.

Well, if you read the entire article, it was obvious retaliation related to money and drugs.  If you are stupid enough to get involved in any drug dealing, then you automatically put your life at risk.
It goes to show you that no area of this city is immune from criminal activity.  Very sad, I'd say.  If it wasn't for all the bloggers causing trouble around here, everyone would love living in Jacksonville.  ;)

In fairness, the 100 block of King is where King and Beaver intersect, by the railyards and the industrial areas.

That isn't really Riverside. And it's a rough neighborhood over there.

Springfielder

mods, would you please move this from of the Springfield section..... :D

Actually, they'd probably call it downtown!

Oh ya, and the 3600 block of Post is across the railroad tracks, it's the part of Post that shoots off into Murray Hill, right by where the Dreamette is.

That's not Riverside either.

Steve

They do stretch the borders of Springfield more than they should, but this is not riverside.  This is North Riverside, which is as separate of a neighborhood as Brentwood is to Springfield.  This historic district border is the CSX line, however anything south of I-10 is commonly called Riverside.  My guess is that the reporter didn't know what the area is called.

The other one is clearly Murray Hill (west of CSX).

Karl_Pilkington

sucks when they attribute crap like this to your neighborhood don't it   ;D

Well unless I'm missing something, the article doesn't say anything about Riverside...

It just gave the addresses where the incidents occurred, which if you're familiar with them, are the Beaver Street industrial area, and Post Street in Murray Hill by the Dreamette. Neither of these incidents occurred in Riverside.

I think maybe folks get confused, because Post Street runs all the way through Murray Hill and goes on to connect with Normandy Blvd., and same deal with King Street, it goes all the way up past the railyards and into the industrial park before intersecting with Beaver. I think people just see the street names and think RS.

HollyBrook and Riverside is not the same place. Riverside ends once you pass the street that connects Stockton, King & Mcduff....and for some reason I can not remember the name of that street!!! OMG!!!  Is it Ernest Street? Im talking about the street that starts at DJs Records and goes all the way to W W GAy. Once you pass that street you not in Riverside anymore, you are either in Lackawana or Mixontown/McCoys Creek, which is where Hollybrook is located.
