How many Olympic cities have hosted the Summer Games without a decent mass transit system?

Ten years? Dream on. The Olympics will never be in Jacksonville in our lifetime.

I wonder if the BofA Tower will be lit up tonight?  I was looking at the skyline the other night as I was driving over the Mathews Bridge and the BofA tower was completely dark, even one of their beacon lights was out, whoever manages this tower doesn't really care about thier presence of that building on the skyline.  I have to give it to the owners of the MODIS building. At least they care abotu civic pride, at least it seems. Shame on the owners of the BofA tower. They can do better.

I'm with you. Bank of America(a bank outta Charlotte) could give a crap about Jax, and the top of the tower demostrates it. I betcha if BOA was still the Barnett Center the top would've always be lit at night. That's why I support local companies like Winn-Dixie, because these out of town companies could care less about Jax.

It certainly is lit up like a light bulb in Uptown Charlotte.

Believe me I'm very pro-Jax, and I love this city, but IMO even in a decade the summer olympics is way outta our league. Jax doesn't have the infrastructure (airport, venues, hotels, etc.) to host the summer olympics in ten years.
well , sense you brought up the airport thing.................whats up with Jia we should have nonstop flights to every were by now whats holding it back................. i think we need a better cruise terminal......and are beaches look the same from here to daytona thats also lacking id ...like south beach .........long bech ...........lets get some mouments and some national venues

1904 Summer - St. Louis, Missouri (Had streetcars as I recall)
1932 Summer - Los Angeles, California (Not sure)
1932 Winter - Lake Placid, New York (No Rail)
1960 Winter - Squaw Valley, California (No Rail)
1980 Winter - Lake Placid, New York (No Rail)
1984 Summer - Los Angeles, California (Heavy Rail)
1996 Summer - Atlanta, Georgia (Heavy Rail)
2002 Winter - Salt Lake City, Utah (Light Rail)

well lets be th first to be different it might pay  off

Here really would be the issue - the US Olympic Committee will only submit one US City (they don't want to split the vote, and lose the chance to hold it in the US).  Personally, I can name a ton of other cities that I can see host the games over Jacksonville.  New york is still a little bitter about losing the 2012 Games (even though their competition was London, Paris, Madrid and Moscow).  Chicago's 2016 bid is rumored to have some problems, I don't know for sure.   For the 2012 Games, San Francisco lost to New York to be the the USOC's nomination, and was quite bitter about it.  I'm sure those cities are a bit hungry for another shot.

Tampa/Orlando's joint bid for 2012 was also eliminated early on.  One of the main reasons the committee rejected them was sprawl (too spread out) and a lack of decent mass transit.

I think we should stop trying to impress the nation and aim high and shoot for the world the olympics will give this city what it needs and i think over thext 10 years we could be a olympic city.

While I agree with the others about infrastructure and hotels here in Jacksonville, I love your bold statements.  I can remember a long time ago of thinking we could be an NFL city and host a superbowl.  They both came to past.  I feel we must always dream big and bold.

Jason

I don't doubt in the least that Jax will get another Superbowl.  The experience for guests will surely be even more impressive than the first.

As for the Olympics, I say go for it.  We'll never get it by believing we can't do it before even trying.
