What's the deal in 5-points?

Can anyone tell me what's going on with the former Abernathy storefront on the corner?
It's painted PUCE   :o  and kind of an eyesore to drive by now.
I heard the Japanese restaurant pulled out of the lease there, so what's going in now?

Yeah that green is horrible not to mention the overall job was done poorly.
The Japanese steak house was definitely not needed as Riverside is the closest thing to a china town as far as Jacksonville goes.

I'm curious to see what those 2 buildings are going to be... new bar maybe?

Well, we're out of luck... it IS still going to be a Japanese restaurant.
:P

The signs on the door read "Fu Hao Bistro", which I hope is no relation to the "Foo Hau" on Timuquana.

This is ridonkulous

You can't even throw a rock without hitting a ten different japanese restaurants all within 2 miles of this new one ALREADY...so did we REALLY need another one?

I disagree with most on this thread.  I think it is great to have that concentration of sushi and japanese restaurants in the area.  The competition has made each restaurant better and all of them are pretty full most nights.  My favorite is sumo sushi.

This place may be a good restaurant, and if so then more power to them. I'm not knocking the place, obviously, since it's not even open yet. But I think what gets me down sometimes is just the lack of variety around here.

There are already too many italian/pizza type places in riverside, and then there are a too many sandwich/burger joints, and then there are waaaaaay too many japanese restaurants around here already. No exaggeration, I can think of 7 of them right off the top of my head, all within 3 or 4 miles of each other.

I personally would love to see some more variety, and would be very excited to see a spanish restuarant, a greek restaurant, a good indian restaurant, or a good thai restaurant that doesn't cost $100 for dinner. We already have a hundred burger joints, way too many japanese restaurants, and a million italian/pizza places in Riverside. And they're already all pretty good...I'm not complaining. I just don't think we need another one.

well if theres no need for another, don't worry it'll go out of business

Quoteor a good thai restaurant that doesn't cost $100 for dinner.

I love thai and it would continue the asian (majority) theme of the neighborhood.

Let's get spicy

Don't worry. I predict the same thing thats been happening with sushi will shift over to thai pretty soon.
Conformulate. Be conformulatable! It's a perfectly cromulent deed.

5 Points Theatre

We've heard rumors that there will be a Thai chef at the former Abernathy's building.

Also, be aware that the Cozy Tea House has started a fixed price Indian dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.  I haven't been yet, but the curry pastries she made for the theatre were excellent.

Quote• The former Abernathy-Shortridge Opticians in 5 Points at the corner of Park and Post streets is being converted into Fu Hao Bistro. It’s bright neon green and scheduled to open March 1 with a Chinese and Thai menu.

Something must've happened... I'm sure a majority of people in the neighborhood felt ill when driving through 5 points and maybe signed a petition or something. The green is out and a fresh coat of orange has been applied. Not great but better than the neon green you could see while orbiting the earth.
