Sorry for the delay - here's a coupon for Benjamin Button.  Just print it out and bring it in.

Tell your friends - we're still trying to get the word out about the theatre.

no worries. I went and saw it yesterday anyway. Nice theatre...I hope people become more aware of it over time. I'll definitely be back in the future (although not often since I no longer live in Jax)

Well, I am still in school up at Northwestern, just outside Chicago. I guess I live there, although I really kind of consider my place of residence to be a bit fluid until I get a job and place roots.

Jacksonville is my home, but I can't really claim to live here since I'm so rarely home. I spent five years at UF too, and think of that place as a second home.

Here's a couple of updates from the theatre:

Thursday is the last night for Benjamin Button - it's been very popular so far (it did even better than the new Bond film we had in November).  We're going to offer a special $5 movie night on Wednesday and Thursday.  No coupon - just show up.  We've got just one show right now, at 7 pm.

Friday we start running Valkyrie for one week.  We'll have shows at 7 pm and 9:15 pm, plus a 4:45 matinee on Saturday and Sunday.

Starting on Friday, January 23rd we're very excited to have Slumdog Millionaire.  This movie just won best drama at the Golden Globes last night.

The number one feedback item we get is that people want to see movies that are a little different from the standard Hollywood fare.

I'll have coupons and showtimes for Slumdog a little later.

Slumdog Millionaire starts Friday and runs until February 5th.  Shows are every day at 7 pm and 9:30 pm, with 4:45 pm matinees on Saturday and Sunday.

We'll be offering curried chicken and vegetarian pastries from the Cozy Tea House across the street, and I'm trying to line up some Kingfisher beer as well.

We have not done a coupon this time, because we haven't seen that many redeemed.  If you plan on going, send me a PM a day or so in advance, and I'll e-mail you a coupon.

That would be great. I would love to see some indy films that rarely make it to Jax.

Any chance you'll be showing The Wrestler? People have just been gushing about this movie and Mickey Rourke picked up a Golden Globe, but so far, I don't think it has played anywhere in Jacksonville.

It's not playing in Jacksonville. Neither is Milk. Alot of good movies have yet to make it to town. I am sure though that two dozen screens are showing Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

That's funny, because before I even finished reading your post, I was thinking to myself, "Gotta make room for Mall Cop, I guess."

5 Points Theatre

We've been begging for a print of The Wrestler.  And Milk.

Wrestler is currently playing on 144 screens nationwide, and Milk on 223.  Those are all the prints that exist.

By contrast, there are 3,144 prints of Paul Blart: Mall Cop being shown across the country (it is the number 1 film in the country right now, and knocked Gran Turino out of the top spot).

We've been talking with both studios, and we may have some luck in a few weeks.  The longer we're open, and the better we do, the more credibility we'll have with the studios.

Check out http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ for more info on the numbers side.

We are super excited about Slumdog Millionaire - come and check it out.  Has anyone on the board seen it?  Any recommendations?

Slumdog Millionaire was FANTASTIC. If that doesn't when Best Picture then I don't know what will. Totally unpredictable, smart, uncensored, and you leave with a good feeling. Just a great, great movie. Better than any other movie i've seen in years, literally.

TREE4309

I'll second that...Slumdog was great!
