SPAR Revitalization Strategy Open House
On December 16, 11 AM to 2 PM (at the SPAR building), the community is invited to the SPAR Open House to see the recommendations and maps that represent SPAR's draft revitalization and leasing strategy. At that time you will be invited to comment and make suggestions concerning the draft strategy.
From the SPAR Weekly Update, 12-05-08.

I'll be at work too far away to get there during my lunch break. If someone can, please let us know the recommendations made in this draft.

I plan to attend and will comment here.

Also, you can probably expect a MetroJacksonville cover story on the Springfield revitalization strategy, but that may come after the new year when the experts have had a chance to review the plan.

Who is meant by "experts" in this statement? The urban and community planners at LISC that have revitalized corridors successfully across the country? Don Downing? Lakelander? The COJ Planning Dept? Someone else? Just curious what "experts" will be weighing in...

<sigh> I wasn't impugning SPAR's or LISCs work at all. I was merely stating that once the plan is unveiled the good experts (urban planning, transit, etc.) at MetroJacksonville would thoughtfully and carefully go over everything before posting their informed opinions, if they chose to do so at all.

I look forward to seeing the revitalization plan. It's a long time coming with a lot of good work invested.

Thank you for offerring to cover this JBD, I know for many of us and our loooong work hours and travel schedules it is impossible to get to these meetings even if we know ahead of time. I appreciate the investment in time MJ has been making on the Sprignfield topics. Springfield is key to downtown in ways the other neighborhoods maynot be. I think where Springfield goes so does Downtown and vice versus.

Thank you MJ for taking interest in the goings on here, it is alwasy wonderful to have your input!!!!

SPAR Revitalization and Leasing Strategy Open House -- UPDATE

QuoteTo allow more people to comment on the leasing strategies, on Monday, December 15th from 4 to 6 PM [at the SPAR building] ,  a map display will be set up and SPAR staff will be on hand to answer questions and to receive suggestions. The display will remain available for viewing and comment throughout the month of December.

SPAR expects to have copies of a Preliminary Leasing Plan Summary Report and Recommendations prepared by Larisa Ortiz (LISC) and possibly the Understanding Main Street Springfield Report prepared by Ennis Davis (SAMBA Vice-President).  Display maps will feature the three priority commercial areas, together with draft recommendations for the proposed character of each area and a list of possible business categories.

Materials are draft works in progress subject to change as more is learned.  SPAR encourages community input!
From Don Downing and the SPAR Weekly Update, 12/12/08

Hopefully, this will provide opportunity for more Springfielder's to view the results of the LISC partnership and SPAR's plans for commercial corridor development.

I look forward to an abundance of comments, productive debate, and community engagement on these issues.
