2008 IS HISTORY, 2010 how do the Jags get to the Superbowl?

It isn't a little fear.  I am quite certain that Florida is unstoppable right now.  I grew up a FSU fan and am still a big Seminoles fan too.  I had entertained fleeting hopes that FSU could do something at home next weekend.  I no longer have such thoughts.  I think Alabama can win, but I think if they played Florida 10 times at the neutral site Ga. Dome, Florida would win 7.  I agree though, I would not want to cheapen the victory by having them drastically shorthanded.

I think Texas Tech's offense would give both Alabama's and Florida's defenses fits.

Tebow is not an NFL quarterback and drafting him would only cause the team to suffer by not addressing a need at another position with the pick used to draft him.  People would not buy tickets because we had Tebow.  We have several Gator players on the team now.  Are Gator fans knocking down the doors to buy tickets?  That is not how things work.  Winning football games makes people want to buy tickets, not drafting a college-only quarterback.  This is no slight on Tebow, he is one of if not the most amazing college quarterbacks in recent memory, but this isn't a Tebow thread.  Suffice to say that is a horrible idea that would only make the team less competitive.  The decrease in ticket sales from having a bad team would surpass any "Tebow bump" in sales by a wide amount.

This team needs significant help at offensive and defensive line.  It is that simple.  Perhaps getting our guards back from injury will help on the offensive line, but I wonder whether Barnes is really that good.  You could have Walter Payton and Joe Montana in your backfield and you will not be successful if your offensive line cannot do their job.  The pressure that Tennessee was consistently getting with just 4 pass rushers on Sunday was the difference in that game.  Garrard has to run for his life and get the ball out quickly with 7 men clogging the passing lanes on plays where we have 4 receivers.  That formula doesn't win games.  Who needs a speedy "Jimmy Smith" type receiver with a line like that?  It takes a 5 or 7 step drop from the quarterback and sufficient time to allow deep patterns to develop.  At this point it is impossible to run these routes because we can not protect the quarterback long enough.  The number one issue on this team is the offensive line.
Likewise, our secondary has been purely awful this year and there can be no excuse for them.  However, you can cover a lot of weaknesses when you can get pressure on a quarterback (see above).  Perhaps Groves and Harvey will develop and that would be a Godsend.  Losing Scott Starks could have been critical, because all signs were he was developing nicely this offseason.  Hopefully he can come back strong and we can finally send Brian Williams to the bench or elsewhere.  I do not know who determined he was a cover-corner, but that's one I am sure they would like to forget.
I do not think the coaching has been bad this season, although JDR has wobbled at times.  The coach cannot wave a magic wand and make Tutan Reyes the next coming of Gene Upshaw.  He can only do so much as the talent on the team allows, and when you have a lack of talent in the trenches, it massively impacts what you can do at the other positions.
Sorry to get everyone so upset!!! I was just trying to think of a way to sell some tickets. I didnt know everyone would get so G@# Damn sensitive. Oh yeah, all of the draft picks and free agent pickups in the past have done wonders for the franchise and ticket sales. It wont really matter in a few years anyway because the Jags arent like Dallas, New England or a lot of any other teams that would go after a big name player. We will all be watching the LA Jaguars or maybe the Las Vegas Jaguars, or better yet the Birmingham Jaguars. My only point was I was trying to sell some tickets, but I guess all of you guys have marketing degrees so I will just keep my opinions to myself!(yeah right!)

I wasn't getting sensitive and did not intend to come across as such.  I just didn't agree with the proposition that Tebow would sell tickets.  I don't know how to get tickets sold for that stadium.  Its a beautiful stadium, the weather is typically perfect and the tickets are very affordable compared to other NFL cities.  If I weren't presently exiled in Virginia (for only 1 more season I hope) then I would have season tickets.  I actually gave some thought to buying some this year just to help sell out the stadium and then giving them to my friends or to charity, my wife thought it a good idea but ultimately vetoed.  I digress.

I think the ticket situation will ultimately take care of itself because Mr. Weaver is committed to this city.  He will not be around forever but I think he will be around long enough to let the Jaguars become firmly entrenched.  I am 27.  I was 14 during the Jaguars first season.  Before then I was a Dolphins fan.  The point is that I still remember no football in Jacksonville.  There are a whole lot of local kids who are now 21 and 22 who have no memory of a time before the Jaguars.  They are just about to get real jobs and be able to buy tickets, and I think they will.  The city continues to grow.  Give it another 10 years and I think its waiting list time.  The Jaguars are not moving to LA.

The Jaguars drafted both Derrick Harvey and Reggie Nelson... both in the first round and both from UF

Fred Taylor was a star running back @ UF that won a national championship there... he's also the face of the team.

Did that sell tix?

There is one thing that is sure to drive ticket sales... WINNING FOOTBALL GAMES and to win football games you need great football players.

You could sign Danny Wurfel tomorrow and still have black out concerns and LA rumors.

Personally I will continue to renew my season tix every year regardless of our record. The NFL is a product, it's exciting. Standing on my toes watching the ball bounce of Matt Jones's hands at the end of the Clevland game was exhilirating even though we lost.

It's great to be outside on beautiful sunday drinking beers with your dad, son, wife or buddy watching athletes perform at this level win or lose.

Lower your expectations and just enjoy the game.
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Get Tim Tebow in 2010 draft. At the very least they could sell some tickets.

Typical Gator fan.
Sorry MattnJax. If this guy played for FSU, Georgia, or any other team I would feel the same way. My main concern at this point is to sell tickets!

Selling tickets is your main concern for NFL football? Selling tickets? Vic Ketchman was right about Jacksonville fans... :-[

Of course I wanna win. What fan doesn't. But I also don't want my beloved team to leave town, so selling tickets is a major concern for me.

I don't think I could have said it better myself.
