The response (way back then) from JSO was that to sift through all the officer's hours and separate On- vs Off- duty would be too much work. I never understood why though...

I do know that I often saw Off-duty cops in the alley behind my house, back when Flagship on 6th was REALLY bad. They ID'ed themselves at that time as specifically working for the SPR Crime Fund.

Personally I don't give a crap where the cops go. A reduction of crime at my neighbor's house over on the East side benefits me as a whole. And if SRG wants to pay the whole nut, so be it. I don't contribute anymore mainly because I have other things to contribute $$ to.

And I believe that my TAX dollars should provide me with a safe neighborhood.

Yep.....I agree. I never did contribute.

I've never contributed and I probably never will. I honestly can't understand why we, as a neighborhood, need to hire off duty police to do the job that the regular on duty police should be doing.. Until the JSO can find the time to sort through the data and prove that the off duty police are doing anything more than the on duty police, I won't give a dime...
Yankees suck!! Yankees suck!! Yankees suck!!

I'm with you, and never contributed either. I like accountability, and there's no reason why they can't provide that. JSO knows the shifts of their officers and when they're working off duty...so why's that so hard to provide detailed accounts of what those off duty officers did

The Crime Fund shows up on the SPAR 990s under "other expenses" of around $84k. It is impossible to tell from the 990 if the category "other" encompasses expenses in addition to the Crime Fund.

Travel for conferences and conventions is found in the itemized expense list. (Somewhere around $10k).

Expenses for recent hires will appear on the 990 due in 2009 for the 2008 tax year. It is my understanding that the urban planner position is funded in whole or in part by LISC grant (which will also appear in part on the next 990).

The Space was rented for a year to a computer company. When the owner decided to move locations, it was left open. I would imagine its hard to rent a space between a building be put up and 8 blocks of Main St being torn up.

Hey Downtownparks!  I actually agree 100% with what you just posted!  Is the sky falling? ;D
