Why would people buy tickets? Because his name is on the roster? No, they want to see him play. He won't play as a rookie.
I am going to say this one more time and then I am done. People will buy tickets just for the resons I just stated. Do you think people in Cleveland had any idea that Brady Quinn would be playing so soon. Thsy were excited because of his high profile and he was from Cleveland. Not that the Browns need any help selling tickets!

Tebow is not an NFL quarterback and drafting him would only cause the team to suffer by not addressing a need at another position with the pick used to draft him.  People would not buy tickets because we had Tebow.  We have several Gator players on the team now.  Are Gator fans knocking down the doors to buy tickets?  That is not how things work.  Winning football games makes people want to buy tickets, not drafting a college-only quarterback.  This is no slight on Tebow, he is one of if not the most amazing college quarterbacks in recent memory, but this isn't a Tebow thread.  Suffice to say that is a horrible idea that would only make the team less competitive.  The decrease in ticket sales from having a bad team would surpass any "Tebow bump" in sales by a wide amount.

This team needs significant help at offensive and defensive line.  It is that simple.  Perhaps getting our guards back from injury will help on the offensive line, but I wonder whether Barnes is really that good.  You could have Walter Payton and Joe Montana in your backfield and you will not be successful if your offensive line cannot do their job.  The pressure that Tennessee was consistently getting with just 4 pass rushers on Sunday was the difference in that game.  Garrard has to run for his life and get the ball out quickly with 7 men clogging the passing lanes on plays where we have 4 receivers.  That formula doesn't win games.  Who needs a speedy "Jimmy Smith" type receiver with a line like that?  It takes a 5 or 7 step drop from the quarterback and sufficient time to allow deep patterns to develop.  At this point it is impossible to run these routes because we can not protect the quarterback long enough.  The number one issue on this team is the offensive line.
Likewise, our secondary has been purely awful this year and there can be no excuse for them.  However, you can cover a lot of weaknesses when you can get pressure on a quarterback (see above).  Perhaps Groves and Harvey will develop and that would be a Godsend.  Losing Scott Starks could have been critical, because all signs were he was developing nicely this offseason.  Hopefully he can come back strong and we can finally send Brian Williams to the bench or elsewhere.  I do not know who determined he was a cover-corner, but that's one I am sure they would like to forget.
I do not think the coaching has been bad this season, although JDR has wobbled at times.  The coach cannot wave a magic wand and make Tutan Reyes the next coming of Gene Upshaw.  He can only do so much as the talent on the team allows, and when you have a lack of talent in the trenches, it massively impacts what you can do at the other positions.

Great post Cooperfiend and Tripoli. GatorShane I understand what you are saying, but the Jags dont need any gimmicks to sell tickets. They need a complete balance team with talatent players and playmakers. As mentioned a solid O-line and D- line. Tebow, Brady, Manning if the team cant win and be competitive, a contender. People will stay home like they are doing now. Cleveland and many other team already have a good strong fan base built already. We're still trying to get to that point. We just have alot of bandwagoners and they are jumping off right now.

And for the last year and a half the Browns have had to deal with a distraction. The fans didn't want Quinn on the bench, they wanted him on the field. Do you think if the Gators fans in town bought tickets because of Tebow that they would sit on their hands and watch Garrard until Tebow is ready?

Get Tim Tebow in 2010 draft. At the very least they could sell some tickets.

With Wrightser coming back from ACL injury, im not sure we need another TE  ;D

Ouch, that left a mark :o

Yeah, but this is a tightend with a heisman. Anyways I agree there are other positions we need to fill then the 3rd string tightend position. We need a playmaking wide receiver, some corners that can actually play man to man, some d linemen, some o linemen and maybe we can draft a defensive coordinator as well. damn, i miss mike smith. Oh yeah, since it looks like we will get a top 10 pick, HEY SHACK HARRIS start picking some good players instead of these damn bums you keep picking.

copperfiend

Shack won't be around. He is going to be the fall guy. The funny thing is that Harris lost alot of responsibilities this past offseason. The offseason people consider the worst in team history.

Typical Gator fan.
Sorry MattnJax. If this guy played for FSU, Georgia, or any other team I would feel the same way. My main concern at this point is to sell tickets!

But Tebow isn't a pro-style QB. He's probably going to transitition into a TE or maybe a fullback, who knows. But I highly doubt he's going to be a QB in the NFL.

Gator fans think this guy is the greatest football player of all time, college or pro. It's ridiculous. That's why I called you a typical Gator fan. I'm sorry but Tebow isn't the 'chosen one'. I can't tell you how many Gator fans I hear that think he's going to be this hall of fame NFL QB. Especially since most Gator fans have no knowledge of football outside of the gators and college football. And even if the Jags drafted him there probably wouldn't be a major bump in tickets, and frankly I wouldn't want to watch a game with people that come to Jags game just watch Tebow. I'd rather watch it with true Jag's fans.

I can't recall any other comments you have made about the Jags in the past, but I'm gonna assume we'd agree on a lot of football things, cause I support this post 100%.

I personally think Tebow has a shot to make it as a QB. He's making great strides as a passer, although you're right that he's had essentially zero experience in a pro-style offense. He's got to keep improving if he's gonna succeed under center. I will reiterate that his chances are better there than attempting to switch positions, imo.

Let us all remember how many great gator qb's there have been in the NFL..... that's right, none

Thanks PM... and I agree, the jury is still out on Tebow.  I think he is making progress and he certainly is stocked with intangibles as a leader and someone who would be a true student of the game.  I expect him to continue improving as a passer and after his senior season he may be worth a look in the 5th round to give him a shot.  Right now he is being asked to run Urban's offense and getting coached up to do that.  If he keeps improving then with the right coaching he could be effective some day.  As an Alabama alumni, it would not upset me in the least, however, if he went down for a couple weeks with a tweaked ankle from the FSU game.  Have them playing to the echo of the whistle Micky!

Haha. Cmon tripoli, dont you want your guys to beat the best when they're AT their best? I don't want to beat a 'bama team that's not at full strength. it that a little fear i'm sensing?  :P
