Daily’s Place

Hello first time posting. I have a question I am hoping to get answers on. Why is it St Aug Amp gets so much more and far better shows than Daily's. I am certain 75% of their patrons are from the Greater Jax area. I love seeing shows there but it is certainly a haul. Their bookings are almost 5x that of Daily's. I believe Daily's has 6 or 7 shows lined up for the entire year. One is wrestling and two are Avril Lavigne and Shania Twain. Cmon that is pathetic! Someone needs to do a better job.

Daily seems to have way more shows than what they advertise on their site FWIW.

The Daily's schedule will fill up as we get closer to summer. I catch a show or two a year at the Amerisbank Amphitheater in Atlanta and their 2025 calendar looks similar to Dailys Place.

Yeah, it's definitely something that I've picked up on over the years too. In terms of quality, quantity, and variety of live acts, the Amp absolutely eats Daily's Place for breakfast. I think a lot of it comes down to management. The Amp is owned and operated by people who love music, and is viewed as a cultural institution in St. Augustine. Daily's Place is a corporate ticket-mill, largely handed off to SMG/Live Nation/Ticketmaster to churn their nostalgia acts through at the highest price possible. Originally, I think there was a plan for the city to also run events at Daily's Place. I vaguely remember some Symphony events, and local cheerleading competitions, etc. Even with the heat and (presumably) higher operating costs, there's no reason Daily's shouldn't be holding 80+ diverse events a year, versus the mayyyybe 30 generic LiveNation concerts coming through.

I agree whole heartedly.

It is interesting to note that the Amp - and the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, when it re-opens after major renovations - have left Ticketmaster for AXS.

For those not wanting to peruse through 21 pages of posts, here is a relevant post I made in the other thread (that I just accidently deleted there, so it lives here now):

Let's check in and see how the great venue war of NE Florida has gone so far in 2024 (note this was made mid-year)

Daily's Place

Rod Stewart, Turnpike Troubadours, Needtobreathe, Judah and the Lion, Brian McKnight, Robin Thicke, Dave Matthews Band x2, Parker McCollum and Corey Kent, Aly and AJ, Doobie Brothers, SWV, Two Door Cinema Club, New Kids on the Block, Lamb of God, Slightly Stoopid/Dirty Heads, Train, John Legend, Jane's Addiction, Bush/Jerry Cantrell/Candlebox, Soul Asylum/STP/Live

St. Auggie Amp

Willie Nelson x2, Keb Mo, The Fake Beach Boys, Foreigner, Tom Segura x2, Tedeschi Trucks, Widespread Panic x3, REO Speedwagon/Cheap Trick, Echosmith, Staind, Billy Strings x3, Brothers Osborne, Social Distortion/Bad Religion, Thievery Corporation, JJ Grey & Mofro x2, G Love and Special Sauce, Allman Betts Band, T-Pain, Buddy Guy, Pepper/Iration, Switchfoot/Matt Nathanson/Blue October, Thursday/Hawthorne Heights, UB40, Slash, Neon Trees, 311, Crowded House.

Florida Theater
It's been a rough year. I will spare them the embarrassment

Not that many acts that I personally like, but the Amp seems to be drawing more acts that people will travel and stay overnight to see.

Amp ended up getting three nights of Pretty Lights, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard (wild name, very interesting catalogue of work), OAR, Avett Brothers, Daryl Hall, Alabama, Slowdive, Dwight Yoakam, The Mavericks, 2 nights of Goose, Juvenile, Benson Boone, Vampire Weekend, Black Crowes, The Used, Violent Femmes, Melissa Ethridge/Jewel, and several others.

Daily's Place got Boyz 2 Men, Creed/Tonic, Alanis Morissette, My Morning Jacket,  STP/Live/Bush/Jerry Cantrell/Candlebox, Janes Addiction, John Legend, Train, Paula Abdul/NKOTB, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DMB 2x, Doobie Brothers, and some others.

For me, the AMP is just a more enjoyable experience overall to the concert goer.  It's tucked into the woods (not surrounded by a parking lot) , the beer garden, the food, the nearby restaurants and bars pre and post concert.

I'll go to Daily's Place if there is a band that I really want to see, but if my excitement level is "eh", I'm much more likely to trek down to the AMP then to Daily's Place.  Daily's place is not that old, but I've noticed some maintenance issues that affect the overall experience negatively (like dripping water and rust stains on concrete).

Anecdotally, performers at the AMP mention the great experience they have in St. Augustine . . . going to the beach, the Alligator Farm and the like.

Why does Wilco and Jason Isbell play at the AMP?  Maybe the experience for the performers is more preferred there than at Dailey's . . . and the promoters know it.

The Amp just has a whole vibe about it.  It's just a cool venue.  Daily's Place is just some venue in a parking lot.  It's like comparing 5 Points to the Town Center.

CityLife

Agreed with the above posts about difference in vibe at the venues. The Amp is also a short walk from Anastasia State Park, which has 139 camp sites. Camping and pregaming there is a really unique experience you don't get outside of overnight festivals.

Even if you disregard the actual difference in venues, St. Augustine is simply a more desirable place to visit. St. Augustine is one of the crown jewels of Florida. Meanwhile, one of the biggest mysteries in the state of Florida, is why is Downtown Jacksonville so dead? I know several people that have traveled to Jax for shows and been absolutely floored at how dead the city is. I'm constantly asked about it when I tell people I'm from Jax.

I'm sure a significant majority of concert goers at both venues are from NE Florida, but the difference between a sold out show and 500 empty seats could be contingent on out of town visitors. All things being close to equal financially, a band and their promoters are always going to go where they think the fans will want to travel to.

Agree on the Amp, but totally disagree on Daily's Place.

There's too much concrete and the air circulation isn't the best, but you catch it on the right night, and it's pure magic as a venue.

Couple of immediate standouts that come to mine.

Machine Gun Kelly, putting on what I believe was the first full capacity concert since COVID broke out. Was a truly insane scene:

AEW, legit putting Daily's Place on the map worldwide as a sports venue. Wrestling fans talk about this place like it's the MSG of the south:

The Jags/Chiefs playoff watch party:

Yellowcard returning to Jacksonville:

Odesza:

With better, more consistent programming, maybe $10 million in additional fit & finish (would love to see seats or a deck added on top of the Daily's Place building), and the development of a sports & entertainment complex around this, this place could be iconic.

Hopefully we'll see it reach its full potential as the sports complex evolves.

Dating myself... I went to the "amp" once... for the official state play, Cross and Sword.  That is what it was built for.  Was bitterly cold and the show wasn't all that exciting... but we were there  ;D.
