QuoteMayor Donna Deegan's proposed 2024-25 budget has one big-ticket item that's no surprise — the renovation of the city-owned football stadium — but it also has other multimillion dollar construction projects that highlight some of her priorities.

Those include continued investment in the UF Health campus on Eighth Street, advancing work on the Emerald Trail and related work on McCoys and Hogans creeks, enhancements to the riverwalk and parks in downtown, the relocations of the Museum of Science and History to a new site on the downtown riverfront and the Jacksonville Fairgrounds to the Westside, and another round of money for construction of a new library branch in the Oceanway area.

Here is a rundown of the 25 biggest construction projects by dollar amount in Deegan's proposed budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year that starts Oct. 1.

Looks like the final cost for Riverfront Plaza is going to be $68 million, and the final cost for Shipyards West is going to be $60 million.

I dig it.

Glad to see finishing Friendship Fountain/St. Johns River Park make it into this year's budget as well.

Does the $60 mill for Shipyards West include utilizing pier #3? That's the piece (walkway over water from pier #4, crossing #3, ending at #2) that could really set this park apart from any other Northeast Florida/Southeast Georgia. Would require improvements to pier #3.

Back during the fight to keep the Landing, we said Riverfront Plaza would actually cost somewhere between $50 and $100 million, and not the $12-$25 million that was mentioned back in those days. That paper napkin estimate was provided based off the average numbers we were seeing for similar sized parks in other cities across the country. We were right on point! Add in the future incentives for the development parcel and it should put COJ in that $100 million ballpark.
