Dating back to 1925, the Oneida Bungalow Court is the largest single-site collection of historic residential units from West Lewisville's (North Riverside's) early days. Now a small local developer intends to preserve and rehabilitation the missing middle housing site as a form of addressing the city's affordable housing crisis. Here is a look at Oneida Court.

Sounds like good news. When I'd drive by there, I was curious about those colorful homes.
Thanks for the article, and I wish the developer well.

PS - From a friend at FDOT, I've heard that they are going to build a new building on their Edison Street site. Don't know if that means the existing building will come down afterwards or not. Construction is a couple of years out.

Lake, thanks for sharing.  Love the layout of the street with porches.  This would be neat to see in a modern day development.  Maybe people would actually get to know their neighbors and kids would play together outside after school like the old days.

Re:  FDOT, I also heard that rumor but that options might also include relocating outside the area and selling off this building.  Apparently, it has aged out in some minds.  Not sure a final decision has been made.

That building is at least a mid-1960s vintage, so I imagine keeping the thing going is getting more and more expensive.

I agree, as close together as modern developments place houses, having front porches would be beneficial.

If FDOT does decide to sell, I'm sure there would be several interested parties. That's a large block of land that could accommodate a decent sized mixed use development with visual and direct access to I-10/95.

Are the houses on Wade Dr. part of the project?

Yes. The rehab pics are of 476 Wade.

That being said, I sure hope they plan on paving Wade Dr.

Interesting project.  The last time I went through there a couple of years ago it was rough.

Wade Drive is the bungalow court. The intent is to consolidate parking on an adjacent lot and "green" Wade Drive into a linear park-like setting.
