Weird, the board has always cut off the full Wordle cut&paste. Today, I added some text after the Wordle graphic, and the board cut it off, too.

I was saying when going from Guess 3 to 4, I had two words in mind, and picked the wrong one, giving me 5 instead of 4.

If you type the reply then paste the copied results it works
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

I use studio as a seed word along with adieu, thanks for the others.

^"Studio" has 6 letters.  Don't see that working in a 5 letter puzzle.  8)

Hmmm... yeah... the forum platform is pretty finicky...

More suggested first words for Wordle and a statistical calculation of the #1 word for minimizing your guesses (also listed above) but note that word is allowed for guesses but it is not on the 2,315 solution word list so you could never win on a first guess with it:
Quoterents, slate, stone, learn, snare, steam, tares, sired, risen, earns, rales

aegis, raise, stoae, atone, auloi, irate, ouija, weary, vague, canoe

Alright, if you don't want to spend all that time guessing and trying out different methods every day, we can (probably) help save you some time and frustration by simply telling you the statistically optimal first guess. One smart cookie—Tyler Glaiel—actually sat down and did the math here.

He found both of the actual word lists that Wordle uses by digging around in the game's source code.  The "possible solutions" list includes 2,315 words, while the game will accept 12,972 guess words.

Glaiel, who works professionally as a programmer and game designer, ultimately ended up creating a bot to help go through the list and determine a word's viable solution value. He found the first iteration worked pretty efficiently, finding a solution in just 3.69017 guesses. Then, he refined the code so the bot could find the solution in an average of 3.49417 guesses and a worst-case of five guesses.

After further testing, Glaiel determined that the ideal first guess is "roate." You're probably thinking that's not a real word, but it totally is, and it's defined as "the cumulative net earnings after taxes available to common shareholders, adjusted for tax-affected amortization of intangibles, for the calendar quarters in each calendar year in a specified period of time divided by average shareholder's tangible common equity."

So, roate is the best first guess, as Glaiel says, "if the metric you're measuring is 'the size of the possible solution list after a guess'." However, keep in mind that this word only appears in the guesses list, and not the solutions list. It's the likeliest way to land you close to an answer, but it'll never be correct. You'll still have to offer up at least one other guess after roate in order to win, but you'll be optimally positioned to do so. If you want the best word that could also be a correct answer, "raise" is the best option. It actually appears in the solution list, and it's statistically nearly as good as roate.

Do you cheat often?

Whose cheating?  I just posted strategies shared by others.  All games involve strategies, usually based on probabilities.  And, the info posted about odds or outcomes is publicly available to all, starting with the creator.  That is not cheating.  Cheating is someone telling you the answer and you taking credit for getting it right by yourself.  All that aside, don't shoot the messenger.  If you don't want to know more about the game, don't read the posts and play it as you wish.

By the way, is it cheating if a player has a better way with words than another?  Every game is played by people with a range of aptitudes for playing that particular game.  Short of perfect randomness, games are rarely, if ever, played on a totally level playing field.

Lastly, the quoted person programmed a computer who could still do no better than an average of about 3.5 guesses.  Since I am not using a computer likely doing thousands of instant calculations on possibilities, I have no added advantage over using common sense strategies that everyone likely comes to after playing a few rounds such as not repeating letters in the early guesses and determining the status of vowels and consonants.  Even at that, there is a high degree of luck.  The most skill is in coming up with the right word with the least amount of information about its spelling.  Not sure you can cheat at that.

You probably use a crossword dictionary too...lol

^ I don't do crosswords.  Can't compete with regulars who have so much experience with the way crossword clues work and familiarity with the words or clues repeatedly used over time.  As I said, no game has a perfectly level playing field.

FYI, I also don't play virtual games for similar reasons.  I can't compete against a teen who grew up on such games and has split second reaction times I can no longer match.

Do you think a beginner Scrabble player with a high school degree is going to win much against a lifetime player that has a doctorate in English literature?  I don't qualify on the latter count by any means, but, having played Scrabble many times, I know a few strategies that help boost my score over less thoughtful or experienced players, even if they are gifted with somewhat better letters.

I note that many players on Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy admit to attributing success on those shows to being respective longtime "groupies" and at-home preparers for them before playing on them.  Few, if any, seem to walk on those stages without having some type of game strategy prepared beforehand.

Then there is chess.  The ultimate game of learned strategies.

Of course, physical sports games often follow along these lines too, particularly at the professional level where teams are supposedly more evenly matched with "raw" talent.  Do players and coaches watching "game film" on their opponents qualify as "cheating?"

Bottom line:  A thoughtful player + experience + a knowledge advantage is more likely (but not always due to some degree of luck :) ) to prevail over opponents not equally or better equipped or prepared in any game not totally randomized.

By it's nature, gaming is a combination of the thrill of sport (i.e. winning against a worthy opponent by NOT cheating) and being competitive (i.e. finding even the smallest "legitimate" edge over an opponent).  If you call the latter "cheating" you might not be playing games very often :).

One game you are good at, for sure, is trolling!  Well played.
