Talk about a witch hunt....

Urban's gotta go.

He's lost the room, and every week this continues, we run the risk of damaging the future of the most important draft pick in franchise history and making Jacksonville a hard-pass for free agents, coaches, and even draft picks.

Urban came in with a grand platform about bringing respect back to the franchise, forcing accountability, and building a winning franchise. And he's failed miserably at all three.

It's not just about the pitiful record and the week-over-week regression we continue to see with this team.

It's about the poor judgement, the alienation of some of our best players, the awful body language, the bald-faced lying to players about the bar situation and to the media about benching JRob, etc.

I don't blame Shad Khan at all for taking a chance with Urban Meyer.

But I do blame him if he lets this thing continue like this for another season.

I do disagree with the 1010XL article though suggesting that the only real solution to the problem is for Urban Meyer to step away, so Khan isn't forced to offer him a $40 million payout to walk away. In the spirit of accountability, if a payout is what it takes, so be it. That's the price of gambling on an unknown/wildcard like Urban Meyer. And that $40 million is a drop in the bucket for a league that just signed an eleven-year, $110 BILLION DOLLAR television contract.

Urban ain't the victim if he gets fired. Shad Khan ain't the vicim if he has to write a $40 million check to get out of a hiring decision he made. Only victim is the City of Jacksonville - the Jags primary customer/financial partner - if Shad Khan keeps Urban because he doesn't want to buy him out.

Lot of talk about Urban being canned after the Texans game.

Just heard from someone credible though that by mid-day tomorrow, he'll be gone.

Fingers crossed.

This whole thing just keeps getting worse.

Imagine if the Jaguars were the team followed on Hard Knocks In Season instead of the Colts, it would have been the best selling sports subscription package in history!

^ The good thing is it will be hard to find a coach who could be worse, on or off the field.  We can only go up from here.

Ultimately, Khan likely made the decision because Meyer not only lost the team, he lost the fans.

Meyer never learned you get more flies with honey.  Misbehaving, cussing people out and degrading or belittling them is not a winning strategy (Trump excluded once, but not twice).

Good riddance...
Damn, BT you're on a roll.  I agree with you again!  Now, who will want to be the head coach of the Jags?

It's probably a good thing that the Jaguars sacked Meyer. The downside, of course, is the fans having to find someone else to blame for the team's performances going forward.

IMO the key reasons why the Jags fanbase has been very lukewarm (even more than usual) as of late.

1. Obviously the team's poor performance on the field during the last 4 years.

2. The NFL has gotten political with messaging. Many long time fans (of all 32 teams) that just wanna watch football without politics are absolutely done.

3.  Reaction to the pandemic. (to a lesser extent, esp in 2021).

'2' and '3' came in at the very same time. In a small market like Jax, those factors are huge. The fans are used to the team struggling; with Trevor here alone and under "normal" circumstances, many more fans would've been in that stadium for games IMO.

I still don't think that it's the end on the world concerning NFL football in Jacksonville. Jax has gotten more progressive, and the metro population growth rate is growing like crazy. Khan is gonna have to be patient (esp with the poor play on the field).

Urban leaving doesn't exactly scream "stability" even though it's absolutely the correct move to make at this moment.

The same guy I wanted prior to Meyer... Eric Bieniemy

Who would you nominate for GM and coach?

I'll start with Elliot Wolfe and Eric Bienemy...

Saleh is one of the best IMO. Bienemy is another

Would be funny if the Bay Street Innovation Corridor was complete when Urban got fired.

Urban packs up his things looking to make a speedy exit, boards a clown car, and proceeds to plod down Bay Street away from the stadium at 8 mph in mixed traffic.
