Back on topic, still silent on the Baptist Site front?  It would be really nice to see some action on this one!

Drove by today and looks like they are ripping up the concrete.

They've pulled up the concrete and now appear to be taking down the trees.

Drove by on Sunday. Definite site work underway.

Do the developers have everything they need at a high level?  Is this them getting started on the full project?  Or are there still approvals + financing pending and this  is just the first stage of getting ready?

I think they had the property rezoned to PUD before they closed but they will still need permits, etc to build anything.

I hear have some ROW permits to do utility work at the street to prep for development.

That will really help fill in Hendricks along that stretch.  Looks pretty good.

More info. The project is underway:

This is a good, even great project to get for a site like this, but for the T-U site, I would hope for something better. I realize the market isn't that great for it, but it is a shame so many of the prime riverfront spots are not better utilized, IMO.

Thanks for that link to the article lakelander. Nice project, but now my suspicions are confirmed, another 5-story Baymeadows-Type building in the downtown area. That would have been a nice spot for at least a 15 story building fronting I-95 with tourists and other visitors passing through. Oh well, another missed opportunity for a precious piece of real estate. That's good ol' Jax for you.

I remember talks of a 10 story building when they demolished the Baptist building. Personally, I'm glad there is going to be a nice amount of street level retail.

I would be more upset if it was another 5 story building along the river. In this spot, it's the right size for the neighborhood and glad it's starting to come to life.
