Can you say scapegoat?  I think Hackett's play calling was perfect for the misfit(s) he was dealt.  A failure at QB, a so-so offensive line even before injuries, best receiver on IR, etc.  He had to adapt the offense to the total failure that is Robby Blake Bortles.  Ask anyone who knows football what is wrong with the Jaguars offense.  I bet Hackett wouldn't be the 1st or 2nd pick.

Hackett isn't completely the scapegoat. They did bench Bortles.
They are shutting the barn door after the horse escaped.  It's too late.  Should have done it weeks ago.  Now they've lost Norwell, Fournette maybe suspended, and the QB gets changed.  From what little I've seen of him, Kessler can at least throw downfield.  They should just let him play lights out and see what happens.  This season is toast.

From what you've seen of Kessler?  OK.

His release is quicker and he throws a prettier ball, but he's small (6'-1/215) and not very mobile.

So Bortles is out;  Kessler is in;  I'll be glad if we start winning.

But....

I don't expect it to happen.

Basically I don't see much changing except the excuses for why we lost.  Now instead of "Because Blake", It'll be because the line couldn't block or because the WRs aren't good enough or because we couldn't sustain drives and the defense was too tired.

Basically all of the real reasons we've been losing all along.

Here's to 2019!

Honestly I think we have the least offensive talent of any roster in the NFL.

That's only on Dave Caldwell, nobody else.

Believe it or not, I agree.  He has 1 week to play with the "1st string offense", he won't have the same OC, and the team's morale is shot.  He is being judged already by what he did with the worst team in the NFL while he was in Cleveland. Forget about "excuses".  Bortles played when we had the best O line we'll have for awhile, a very good defense, healthy receivers, and a steady coaching staff.  What did he do?  This took much too long.  Most impartial people have been scratching their heads for years wondering why Bortles was, 1. Chosen in the 1st round. 2. Kept, when he didn't pan-out. 3. Given an extention.  The Jaguars don't need a new offensive coordinator, they need a person who can evaluate talent.  Now we can listen to them talk about yet another rebuilding.
As for his size, Kessler is probably close in stature to some of the greatest QBs.  Being big didn't help the dinosaurs much.

Agreed, not resigning Allen Robinson was a mistake but it seems like he didn't want to play here either.

Now that we have the gift of hindsight, the release of ARob was so that we could afford Norwell.  We weren't going to be able to do both and with our identity being a physical, running team...  you get the idea.

The move that confused me last year was cutting Hurns ($7.1M) and replacing him with Moncrief ($9.6M).  I still don't understand that one.

For some reason they got rid of the guys BB actually had some chemistry with.

Ben McAdoo spotted at JIA, per the Twitterverse.   Coughlin buddy.  Makes sense.

Maybe McAdoo is buying a house in Ponte Vedra

I think that comment was made in reference to Bill Cowher, who it turns out did not have a new job locally.

I totally agree with the two latest moves from the Jags (Bortles taking the bench, and Hackett getting the axe). It sucks that Fournette had to do something so stupid vs BUF, and will be out next game vs IND.

Some mildly alarming Coughlin remarks for those hoping that the Jags in 2019 might actually recognize their mistakes and try some intelligent roster construction for a change.

Evidently their roster construction was sound and it was "the nature of the game that got us" and for us to remember that Bortles was "a whistle" away from taking them to the SuperBowl. Is the Caldwell delusion contagious?!? It was during his fund drive so I am hoping he doesn't really think that way.

On a positive note, there hasn't been any new extensions yet.

I wouldn't read too much into those comments. He also uttered the phrase in that interview, "back to the drawing board."
