Get in your final rounds of Pirate's Cove mini-golf and Gooding's grocery shopping while you still can, because the Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista shopping center outside Walt Disney World will close within 18 months.

Plans for the closing of Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista to make way for an expansion of Interstate 4 have been public since 2016, but Growthspotter is reporting that negotiations with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) have recently accelerated, and tenants at the complex are being notified that they must exit within 18 months so that construction can begin in 2020.

The Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista shopping center is located across from the entrance to Walt Disney World's Disney Springs hotel plaza, and has been appraised at $145 million.

Following the Crossroads of Lake Buena Vista closing, FDOT plans to turn much of the land into retention ponds so that the busy S.R. 535 interchange can be rebuilt as part of the I-4 Beyond the Ultimate project.

Wow, my family and I often stay at the B Hotel when we visit Orlando and in turn patronize quite a few places in that shopping plaza.  There is a convenient grocery and liquor store, a firehouse subs and several run of the mill restaurants that offer decent selection for kids.

This makes no sense to me.

Looking at the picture Lake posted, it looks like Western Way / Baymeadows Circle West will be treated as an off-set intersection.  That makes more sense, given the huge amount of development, and a Fire Station, along Western Way.

A traffic light at Western Way will be relocated to Baymeadows Circle West to encourage drivers to use those lanes instead of driving between the Bank of America branch and the Arby's restaurant.

However, from the pic I tend to agree with you.

I wish we had the tax money to pay for fixing those root causes. Duval isn't FDOT, where we can shut down entire malls to replace with interchanges and retention ponds.
