^There are a lot of factors, but this is one of them. If I were the Jags, especially, I'd be pretty worried about those figures. I guess we'll see on Sunday.
Why the Jags specifically?  This is an issue that cable companies should be worried about, not end products.

2016 avg attendance - 61,915
2017 lone home game - 61,709

At 3-2 and atop the division, I expect an increase this week.

The Jags because the poll was about them specifically among Jacksonville people, and it found a lot of people are upset by the protests. The one home game tracks with last year but that was before the "Great Kneeling".

Before that poll I would have expected an increased attendance on Sunday based on their on-field improvement. Now I don't know.

Well, the hype train keeps running and I'm not going to slow it down...  A gentleman's wager Taca - We exceed 65k at the gate this Sunday.

You're on - I'll be happy to lose that bet!

It'll be interesting to see what the attendance is like on Sunday. On the one hand, folks are allowing themselves to get excited due to how the team is playing. On the other hand, 35% upset about the protests is a substantial number, especially considering it's heavily Republicans, who anecdotally make up a larger share of the ticket buys.

My guess is that in the longer term, the team's record will have a bigger impact than this one protest.

Lol, people are still protesting? The only thing I've heard all week is the anti-protester Dolphins OL coach being dumb enough to videotape himself snorting white lines at work and sending it to a Vegas stripper.

I don't know about protesting, but they're still tuning out. Attendance and TV ratings are still down. The Jax numbers are foreboding as it's mostly Republicans, who make up a good chunk of the ticket buyers.

That's the same poll I linked before, saying that 35% of people were less likely to follow football due to the kneeling controversy.

I saw that.  Was hoping I could copy/paste the full graph real quick but it wasn't an image.

Eli Manning to be traded to Jags?!  Rumors are flying...

QuoteAt 0-5, the injury-riddled Giants basically have a zero percent chance of making the playoffs. With the 2017 season already lost, some people out there think the Giants should start building for the future, and one quick way to do that would be to trade away 36-year-old Eli Manning for a few draft picks and start the rebuilding process from there.

So what team would make the most sense as a trading partner?

Two NFL Network reporters suggested the Jaguars this week, and it makes a lot of sense. Jaguars coach Doug Marrone clearly isn't thrilled with his current quarterback situation. Back in June, Marrone said it would ideal for the Jaguars if Blake Bortles was throwing zero passes per game, so there's a good chance that Marrone would be on board with bringing in a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

Also, let's not forget that the Jaguars' executive vice president of football operations is Tom Coughlin. During his 12-year run as coach of the Giants, Coughlin won two Super Bowls with Manning, so he knows exactly what he'd be getting from New York if he were to bring the veteran quarterback to Jacksonville.

You're late to the game, Eli's already chimed in.  And since everyone has a hot take, I figured I'd jump in the mix, too.

Here's the rumor I posted up to Facebook the other day:

Seems like a Jax radio personality, Seth Harp, has actually put out a useful comment...

Why not grab Drew Brees after the season?

I don't think a move to get Eli makes any sense. I like the idea of Alex Smith, but I don't see a way that happens - especially with the Trubisky fail and Kiser losing his job.

But Drew Brees... a likely first ballot HOFer, to come pay out his swan song with a young core of solid WRs, a complete running game with a pass-catcher coming out of the backfield and defense that he's never had the luxury of having in his entire career.

Sure, he's 38 now and we'll probably have to give up a couple of high round picks, but would Brees in Teal automatically give us a legit SuperBowl hope next year and possibly the year after?

He says he isn't excited about it, but he didn't say "no" or "never".  Money talks and maybe, too, the opportunity to have another run at the Super Bowl with Coughlin.  I wouldn't expect him to acknowledge any real interest unless the trade actually took place.  To do otherwise, would undermine his status in NYC or with other suitors if a trade didn't occur with the Jags.  Some people are also throwing Phillip Rivers into the mix, albeit as an even longer shot than Manning.

Quote
"I've not heard [the Jacksonville speculation], I've not felt it, not thinking about it," Manning told Newsday. "I don't want to play anywhere else. I love this team, love this organization, and I want to be here."

Manning also added that it would mean a lot to him if he were able to play his entire career with just one team.

"That's always the goal," Manning said. "You always want to come to a place and make an impact, stay in one spot, and I think that's always the mindset. I hope that will be the case."

Of course, Manning knows the NFL is a business where anything can happen, so he didn't completely shut the door on the idea of being traded one day.

"Obviously, in this league, things can change, and if we have to make decisions, we'll figure it out," Manning said.

Non-RedNeck Westsider

I agree.  He didn't say no and money does talk.

I did read an SB Nation article about Philip Rivers, but the damn author of that one, I think, convinced himself about midway through his own article that it was a dumb idea (at least for the Jaguars...)

(also from FB earlier)

https://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2017/10/13/16467330/chargers-philip-rivers-trade-jaguars

Quote
How can you take this shit seriously when this is the lead into his explanation:

"However, after watching him play this year; I am no longer convinced that Rivers wasn't part of the problem himself. This year there are no more excuses. Rivers offensive line may not be that of the Dallas Cowboys, but they are improved and have been adequate in providing him time to throw. As for his offensive weapons, Rivers has a plethora of options that have been healthy and supportive.

All this being said, Rivers is still having one of his worst years of his career. It may not show on the stat sheet, but if you are really watching him play you would see the many flaws that have been holding the Chargers back..."

So basically he's asserting that the Chargers suck because of Rivers and the Jaguars would want him why? Because he has a home in Destin?

What the fuck ever Louis Gorini.... This might be why no one pays to hear your opinion.

And yes... I probably spend too much time debating the Jaguars on Facebook.

Eli Manning?  No.

Drew Brees?  Maybe.

Alex Smith? Perhaps.  KC has the ridiculously strong armed Patrick Mahomes waiting in the wings.......

Under no circumstance should they draft another QB.  Another wait and see project? Fuggedaboutit

If we remain a run first team then BB is perfectly fine. Draft some real offensive lineman for God's sake.

Snaketoz

Looks like the Jaguars are playing normal at home.  2nd quarter and it's looking bad.  If the Jag's running game is stuffed and Bortles has to pass, the Jaguars are in deep doo-doo.
"No amount of evidence will ever persuade an idiot."

civil42806

Well thats what happens trying to play without a quaterback, though BB has not been bad.  Special teams decided not to show up this game, its always one phase or another.

BridgeTroll

The Jags minus Bortles are fine.  BB is incompetent.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Attendance was 56,232, the lowest of the Khan era. Unfortunately, NRW, you owe me a dollar.
