‘Modern’ self-storage proposed for San Marco

When hundreds of apartment dwellers move into an area, chances are they will need a place to store their stuff.
To serve those needs for renters coming to several new residential projects on the Southbank and in San Marco, a developer wants to build a four-story self-storage facility on 1.16 acres along Kings Avenue.

Property owner Bee Street Investors Inc. proposes to develop the self-storage center on part of the land at 1853 and 1877 Kings Ave.

It will feature a "modern" four-story, 100,000-square-foot personal-property storage facility whose units are fully enclosed and accessed from within the building, according to a zoning application.

"This project will provide a much-needed support service to the San Marco and Downtown communities," says the application for an administrative deviation to the zoning code

I noticed that the pest control company at the at the corner of Kings/Atlantic has also moved out.  It makes me wonder if something is going on with that property too.

Bring it on. There's not much on those lots now, and there's no nearby storage.

Where I live, Greenville, SC, there is a project that will have retail and parking access on the ground level, parking on the next 3 levels with self storage on the exterior edges, then a hotel on the highest floors.  The design has not been published yet, but I am very curious to see it.

I'm fine with this.  That spot will be a tough sell for any other use.

^ Why would it be a tough sell? There is about to be an exit off of 95 right there.

Because it's a 1 acre lot that's only about 100 feet deep at one end and a 30 foot high interstate along the back.  I don't think hotels, apartments, restaurants or retail will be interested.

Oh. I assumed it would be perfect for fast-food...not that we need more of that.
