I don't think that the offensive line was that bad. To me the RBs have been pretty poor. There hasn't been a real threat in the backfield coupled with inconsistent play from the TEs. A QB being able to consistently use his TE on short to intermediate routes will help your run game.

So I'll include you in the "4 for Howard" camp.  ;)

I wouldn't draft a TE that high especially when I think Njoku, Everett, and Engram are all very close to each other in ability. If the Jags really like Howard then they need to trade.

I understand that you are joking but it is crazy that some people have already given up on a 24 year old QB that accounted for 40 TDs just two seasons ago.

Papa33

A good portion of his TDs came in mop up time.

RattlerGator

Who gives a damn if they came in mop-up time? Not me. He's incredibly young and it is far, far too early to be talking about trading the man. He had a bad year. Hell, the offense had a bad year so he clearly wasn't alone and it wasn't all on him. Trading Julius Thomas is a pretty good indication of where part of the problem was. If he has another year like last year, yes. But not now. We need to get tougher on the O-line, Blake needs to get more patient and efficient, our WRs need to keep grinding, and our running game simply has to get more yards.

And Cutler? Hell, no !!!

Factoid: our rushing stats are nothing short of incredible:

T.J. Yeldon, 130 attempts, 465 yards, 3.6 avg., longest run of 16, number of 20+ runs 0, TDs 1

Chris Ivory, 117 attempts, 439 yards, 3.8 avg., longest run of 42, number of 20+ runs 2, TDs 3

Blake Bortles, 58 attempts, 359 yards, 6.2 avg., longest run of 27, number of 20+ runs 4, TDs 3

That, my friends (except for Blake), is pathetic. That's on the runners and the O-line and is indicative of how hard it has been on Blake. What young QB performed better with such a pathetic running game? He was sacked 55 times in 2014, 51 times in 2015, and 34 times last year.

His percentage of time sacked when attempting a pass has gone from 10.4%, to 7.8%, to 5.2% last year.

We should not be giving up on this man and it is foolish to be speculating about it IMHO.

Sure, but name me list of other QB's that hit 40 TDs in "mop up time".

An observation of Action News coverage of the draft: Are you sure you have enough anchors covering this thing? Who did they want to perform closing credit music on the special, The Polyphonic Spree?

civil42806

Oh my they did it.  Fournette!  Why does he remind me or curtis enis (Coughlin wanted to draft him)  or Trent richardson.  Hope it works out but about as enthused as about Luke joekle

RattlerGator

I'm happy. Fournette could be really, really special.

BridgeTroll

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Kinda a high for an RB, IMO.  Could have traded down and still ended up with someone like Cook, along with addressing some other needs. Nevertheless, only time will tell....

How to fix a running game by the Jags 101:
Ignore O-Line
use pick 36 on a RB
sign FA to stupid contract
use pick 4 on a RB

The Jaguars had an okay running back group before today. This selection makes for a very good running back group. Fournette, Ivory, Yeldon and Corey Grant. A bit of an improvement in the offensive line and this could be a great foursome.

Keith-N-Jax

Trolls out in full force tonight, anybody know how many people usually seated for an NFT draft?

JaxAvondale

Philly has a good set up for the fans. The Jags & city could do something similar at Met Park.
