You guys have already given up on Bortles?

Call it an interim upgrade. Keep Bortles, maybe he will learn something under Romo.

You mean Blake "dont call me Byron " Bortles?  I  certainly have. Meh...
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Trade for Romo? For what so he can get hurt in preseason!

Trade for Romo while you draft for Bortles replacement.

Romo to Robinson, Hurns. Lee and Thomas would be a great combo.

Romo has 2 or 3 years left in him, use it up while you can.  Dallas sure isnt.

I had a similar thought.  You must have read my comment on PFT.  ;)

I haven't given up on Bortles.  I don't subscribe to the theory of picking up high profile FAs at the end of their career.

But....

We have an offense that is stacked with talent at WR/TE and even RB.  These are young guys and they need someone who can get them the ball.  We have another year & an option on Bortles, so we could feasibly shelve him as a 3rd QB while he works solely on mechanics while Romo leads the team and keeping Henne as a backup.  He and Romo have a similar 'gunslinger' approach to the game, so whatever coaching staff that comes in wouldn't be a huge transition from Romo to Bortles when/if he is ready.

The downsides are that we're going to have to pay out of the nose to get Romo.

Would we be able to structure the contract so that when he's released in 3 years, it's not going to kill our cap?   I don't think he would sign anything under a 5/6 year contract and we're only expecting to need him for 2 years or so.
Would we be able to get him without giving up the future?  If a trade is in the cards, can we get something done and still keep our 1 & 2nd round selections.
Our O-Line might get him killed.

It's all pipedream stuff anyhow.  I think our front office is more concerned over who the next coach is than which FAs we need to pick up.  And I wonder how/if Caldwell is tied to the development of Bortles.  Since there's a 90% chance that we're going to have a new staff next year, I would think the coaching hire is going to come fast so that we have a gameplan when FA and the draft come up.

A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

The list of former NFL Head coaches who want to come back and coach is non existent.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Ever heard of Lane Kiffin?

And yes, I'd want him here right now. We need an offense guy who can settle Blake's ass down and open this very predictable and completely boring offense up a good bit. It looks clear now that we made a mistake hiring a defense guy in an era where offense rules. Shad, go get Lane Kiffin.

As for Caldwell -- he shouldn't be going anywhere. He has done a good job.

Man, I would be ELATED if the Jags hired Kiffin...so I could keep trolling you guys about how terrible the Jags are.

Lane Kiffin is overrated.

The foul mouthed son of Monte has burned a lot of bridges and doesnt have a lot to show for it.

Right now he runs one of the most talent laden offenses in college football, but still struggles at times to get them to perform.

I cant see him move the Jags much further.

I disagree with RattlerGator on pretty much everything, but I would consider Lane Kiffin here. He was unsuccesful the first time around (so much so that I forgot he coached at Oakland) but he's grown up now. However, why would he leave Alabama? Hell, they could probably beat the Jags, and at the very least are better prepared and coached on any given day than this team.

While there have been some really good college teams and some really bad NFL teams in history, I dont think Bama could beat the Jags.  The 1975 Tampa Bay Bucs perhaps, but not the 2016 Jags.

bringing in Lame Kitten would be the worst idea ever! I want Coach Coughlin back!!!! let him be GM and coach.

Snaketoz

It wouldn't surprise me if the current coach returns in 2017.  After all, he is positive and likable.

No way Gus is back after this season, team would need a repeat of 1996 and that's not happening with BB5 struggling.

RattlerGator

Looks like Blake may be hurt. We'll see if he comes out for the 2nd half. 9-9 tie with the Lions in a game the Jags should (given how well the defense has played) be winning by two touchdowns.

RattlerGator

Good God, another pick-6. We've got to sit him down for his own good. His confidence and faith seem to be shot. This offensive system just doesn't work for him.

We need a new head coach. If not Lane Kiffin, someone who can be an offensive mind sufficient to pull this Blake out of his funk.

Thank God I have Sunday ticket... too many good games on to stick with this crap...

Switching back in time to see Lee make 2 beautiful catches.

BB6 pick Bortles, how many games have Bortles put out of reach that were in reach?  I think its time for Allen, I think that's his name
