Springfield Lofts: Another City Living Option Coming

By the end of the year, construction on the largest infill project in Springfield since 2008  could be underway at 1341 Pearl Street.  Courtesy of Moderncities.com and Transform Jax, here's a closer look at what Tampa-based GNP Development Partners has proposed for the former Jacksonville Jewish Center site.

This would be a big improvement on what is there now!

So, I'm confused, was the demolition of the taller structure of the Jewish Center recently or back in 2009? The article doesn't make that clear.

jcjohnpaint

If I'm not mistaken, it burned down a few years ago.

From article:

QuoteIn April 2011, the main sanctuary was destroyed by fire.

The main sanctuary was destroyed by fire in April 2011. It was demolished a few weeks later. The picture showing the main sanctuary still standing was taken in 2009.

Yeah, it says there was a fire in 2011, not that it was soon after demo'd. Just because something burns doesn't mean it's automatically demo'd what about those abandoned buildings near the Courthouse? How many times has there been fires there? Those buildings are still there.

You can never assume your reader knows something you don't explicitly state. That being said, I think your articles are thoroughly well researched.

Sorry. I never intended for the demo to be a focus of the redevelopment story, so I never thought about it. That was the reason I only mentioned it being "destroyed" in 2011.

^But yeah, it wasn't your average fire that left a building standing.  The fire pretty much destroyed it. Here's an image before demolition:

Definitely.

The project was approved by the Planning Commission last week. The only (somewhat) significant sticking point with neighbors thus far has been parking. To address that, COJ placed a condition that there shall be at least 1 parking spot per bedroom, none required for the commercial portion. Hopefully that solves the concern.

No worries Lakelander, I just wasn't sure about the timeline of events.

This bit of re-purposing of an old structure is encouraging. Hope to see more of this going on.

Any word on when this project will start?

Right after the Publix in San Marco  :o

So, with recent news. This is going to be soon? Or has this been tabled?
