Mayport Village: A glimpse of lost time



Over 450 years of history has left its mark on a Jacksonville fishing village that sits on a busy, watery corner where the St. Johns River meets the ocean. Mayport Village, despite empty lots and run-down homes, has stood the test of time. Popular restaurants, endless fishing holes and one Florida’s few remaining passenger ferries have helped the area maintain the feel of a time long gone. Absolutely love the Mayport Village. I hope COJ, one day, makes a serious effort to revitalize the district in an extremely careful and thoughtful way that reflects its roots, since mostly everything is torn down now. I pray that no gaudy, ridiculous developments (like a cruise terminal or something of the sort) takes root.

I'd love for it to mimic the vibe of downtown Fernandina Beach.

But... I know deep down this will never happen.

I agree. Mayport is synonymous with seedy transactions and blight. You'd think that property in such a prime location would have more to offer. Not today at least.
