Outside of the Middle East, there isn't a sketchier country on the planet than Mexico. The drug cartels run the show down there and estimates of over 100,000 people have been killed in the last 10 years during the Mexico Drug Wars. The latest escape by El Chapo only solidifies just how far the tentacles of the cartels can go. Which also justifies the brash words of the Donald even more. Mexico is not a country you want an open border with.

Trump's words were not justified at all. He didn't say anything about cartels. Trump is a racist - a non-racist person who was worried about the influence of Mexican drug cartels would've worded it differently. The fact is, Trump thinks all Mexicans are criminal and drug addicts -except the "some" he "assumes are good people".

I would love to see some evidence to prove the vast majority of illegal immigrants from Mexico are drug users, criminals and rapists. Because if that cannot be substantiated, Trump is a racist. Simple as.

"They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."]"They're not sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Read his full transcript. For Trump to be a racist - he would have to say something like this: "Latinos are rapists". Considering he said nothing of the sorts, to claim he is a racist is childish. And what more could you possibly need to know that "the vast majority of illegal immigrants from Mexico" are criminals?? They are criminals BY DEFINITION. What part of illegal do you not understand?

No, calling Mexicans criminals, rapists, etc is by definition racism. Also - he said they're "bringing crime". That's not the same as breaking a law by sneaking into a country.

Mexican isn't a race. And again, he isn't talking about Mexicans. He's talking about illegals. It's a crime to break into a country illegally and not leave. And yes, a lot of illegal aliens bring crime with them and continue to commit crimes even after they've been released from prison. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jan/30/illegal-immigrants-released-custody-committed-1000/

latino is a race, and the vast majority of mexicans are latino.

Don't be coy, its very unbecoming.

Latino is not a race. It's an ethnicity. This is a widely accepted fact.

There are roughly as many Italians in South America as there are in Italy. In fact, a substantial number of South Americans are Italian, Spanish, German, and other European nationalities.

That said, a significant number of people that are offspring of indigenous tribes of the Americas do exist in Central and South America (particularly in Mexico). Many of whom are among the lower classes. I believe these are these are the types Trump is referring to and you could probably consider it racist to discriminate against them imo, though I'd argue its more xenophobic.

The greatest irony is that those who make a big deal about how "Mexican" et al isn't a race are the same people who took exception to people referring to George Zimmerman as a white Hispanic.

Stephen, I'm not going to delve into a debate on race vs. ethnicity, because its a quite complex subject, but by and large "latino's" and "Hispanics" are considered an ethnolinguistic group not a racial one.

If you feel strongly enough that this is incorrect, go try and edit this Wikipedia page and see what happens.

But surely that's not the point. The term "racism" can encompass ethnic groups. Legally, it does in some jurisdictions. And that's because no one can agree on when something ceases to be an ethnicity and starts to be a race.

But even more importantly - it's the behaviour that it describes, not the target. So whether you are speaking ill of a racial group (whatever that is) or an ethnic group (whatever that is), you're basically doing the same thing. And if you call it racist (mainly because it's the easiest way to describe it), no one really should object.

If you don't like that, come to the UK and stand on a street corner screaming anti-Polish invectives. You're likely to be arrested and charged with incitement to racial hatred. You can argue the toss in front of the judges if you want to.

2. Run El Chap, Run!!!!! (said in a distinctly Forest Gump way)

I said this before; Proof that many (esp on the left) sympathize with the criminal culture which destroys countless lives... The black community is notoriously ravaged with violent culture because of people with that kind of similar (looking up to, or sympathising with drug dealers, killers etc) attitude which permeates. Somehow my take will be 'controversial' in 3...2...1...

When putting Mexico in the Murder box check the figures in tiny El Salvador, the record holder by far in all of Latin America;
a murder rate that nearly exceeds comparable charts to the larger sovereign states not only between Tierra del Fuego and Rio Grande del
Norte but include the US cities in a comp.
The police are totally dependent upon literal protection from gang strangleholds permeating all urban areas.
Their protection allows the police to survive, such feckless protection as they provide.

All of Latin America is dependent upon an age old unwritten premise that is offensive to the Norte Americano mind (US & Canadian)...
the "Mordido" (The "Bite").  When you live and travel in this region if you  survive you quickly learn this most basic premise.
Everybody expects something for turning their head to the highest officials.

It only takes one traffic stop in Mexico City to learn quickly.  The Motorcycle cop will hum haw and fiddle around with his ticket pad
until the point of exasperation when he simply looks the callow gringo int he eye and pointedly asks,"You don't understand?"
"You don't want this" and he shakes the ticket book.  "You have to go to see the magistrate with this, mayber deportation for speeding.
You give me what you can afford and we all go our own way.".
Lesson #1 in basic survival in a culture with a still fully adjusting to their new constitutional guarantees of 1917.
Someday they will no longer have feudal roots permeating their well intended legal system.

Came across this article today on Yahoo:

http://news.yahoo.com/fifa-asks-russia-why-banned-player-reaction-racism-104707583.html

The quote that interested me was from Yuri Boychenko, who heads the anti-discrimination section of the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner:

It is not black and white only, racism and racial discrimination is about the issue of ethnicities, religious affiliation, culture and language.
"If you're going to play it out of tune, then play it out of tune properly."

The Federales got him again. With all of the corruption going on down there, he should be out by the start of football season...

Mexico is actually gonna extradite El Chapo to the US?? Wow, I can't believe it! If that's the case, then I commend Mexico for swallowing their ego, and doing the right thing. If on US soil, this guy won't have a chance in hell of being free again.
