Sharper Images closing

The economy is beginning to take its toll on retail chains.

All Sharper Image stores, including the ones at the St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville and at the Oglethorpe Mall in Savannah, Ga., will be closing.

Merchandise is being sold at a 20- to 40-percent discount, according to the store manager at the Jacksonville location who would only give his name as Ron. He said Monday there was no timetable for shuttering the store. A news release said the sale “would not last very long.”

The company known for its high-tech gadgets filed for bankruptcy in February and was bought at bankruptcy auction on May 29 by Hilco Merchant Resources LLC and Gordon Brothers Retail Partners LLC.

Anyone know what else is coming to SJTC?  I heard some new stores were still coming in addition to another Pub style eatery (locally owned) - I cannot confirm, however.

Honestly, I cant believe that The Sharper Image stayed open as long as it did.

what gives you that impresson?  Last I heard they were going to the Avenues Walk, which in my opinion seems like an unlikely place for them; but none of the renderings (including the recent ones) state that.
