Jaguars fire Gus Bradley; Yosemite Sam named Interim Coach

The Jacksonville Jaguars have done what was considered inevitable and have fired Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley.

After a lengthy discussion aboard Kismet, owner Shad Khan's yacht, general manager David Caldwell and Khan came to the agreement that Gus Bradley's tenure as head coach was over. This comes as no great surprise to anyone here at Big Cat Country.

After a 1-5 start to the season that was plagued by mediocre play that was compounded by injuries across the roster, Caldwell decided that a coaching change was necessary.

During an impromptu press conference, he stated that while the roster was beset by injuries, the lackadaisical play on the field by rookies and veterans alike proved that the on the field results were not a product of talent so much as coaching. Citing a culture in which players were coddled and treated without stern criticism, Caldwell appointed a relative newcomer to the NFL Yosemite Sam as Interim Head Coach.

No stranger to hard criticism and consternation, Yosemite Sam wasted no time addressing concerns about his coaching style.

"OOOOOOOOH WHAT IN TARNATION IZ HAPPENIN HERE IN DUUUUUUUVALLLLLLLL?" Sam said as he fired two pistols into the air. "WE GOTS A PLAYER ON THE DADGUM TEAM BLOCKING WHILE HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE TACKLIN AND A QUARTERBACK THAT THROWS LIKE I SHOOT. DANGNABIT THESE JAGWHYERS CAN'T DO NOTHIN RIGHT AND I KNOW WHAT MEDIOCRITY IS!"

Sam went on to say that he was going to hold players accountable in his own special way, brandishing a large assortment of knives, barrels of gunpowder, and sticks of TNT. Sam went on to verbally harangue reporters and staffers for several minutes unintelligibly with smoke pouring out of his ears until Jaguars Public Relations Manager Tad Dickman was forced to douse Sam with a glass of water.

Flanked by his defensive coordinator Wile E. Coyote and offensive coordinator Sylvester the Cat, Sam ended his press conference saying, "WELL SHOOT AH CAN'T DO WORSE THAN 8-30, CAN I?!?!?!"

As I've said before, this season isn't about a won-loss record so much as it is about the pieces, and I still like the pieces.

This sounds suspiciously like "it's a rebuilding year" which seems to be what I've heard about the Jags for the past several years. When was the last time they made it to the playoffs?

I'm a casual football fan from a family of hardcore football fanatics (and former season ticket-holding Jax natives). So I'm not a big football person but I am kind of surrounded by them. The Jags have unfortunately become a tired joke. Other than some misplaced sense of hometown pride, I'm not sure why anybody would be excited over the team at this point. What can they do? Genuinely asking. Is it luck of the draw as regards draft picks and injuries? Bad coaching? Some combination?

A blind monkey could improve that team.  Just give him a reward every time he runs Lamar Miller, and you'll be picking up wins in no time.

Jags to play in London through 2020

Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan is expected to formally announce the team will play a home game yearly in London through the year 2020.

News4JAX Sports Director Sam Kouvaris said the team has an option to continue through 2025.

Jaguars President Mark Lamping and Khan met with Jaguars clients in Wembley on Thursday (pictured above).

The Jaguars will play the Buffalo Bills at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

It's significant because for the first time ever, an NFL game will be streamed online around the world for free.

Because of the kickoff time, fans in Europe will be able to watch an afternoon game and fans in Asia and Australia to watch a game that kicks off at 12:30 a.m. instead of 4 a.m.

At some point Khan has to be tired of broadcasting a losing team around the world. Its bad enough that Jags fans have to endure this "level of entertainment", but somewhere in his bowels, he has to be building up some sort of rage over the misuse of Jaguars by Bradley and staff.

It really isn't hard to see. But it is frustrating, so I'm not bent out of shape by people venting. Our situation *is* worthy of serious venting. But they clearly do have a plan that far exceeds anything from the recent regimes, and they do have the pieces largely in place. Blake has to come through for us. That's the bottom line. In this League, your QB must come through for you if you are to have any real hope.

I wonder how much longer it'll be before attendance woes will plague the team again. The fans can only take so much punishment! Even the 2011 season of 5-11 looks good compared to the past 3, possibly 4 if this one keeps going the way it has been.

In 2012, the Jaguars agreed to a deal to play one home game per year in London for four years, beginning in 2013. Now, as he walks the streets, the dream has come full circle. He is recognized. He is prodded for information about Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles and his offense.

"People will stop me on the street and they know -- Jaguars. It's a certain street recognition we didn't have years ago."

He added: "It's fun. We're getting advice from fans as to what we should be doing, which is wonderful. They care. I think it's just one more metric on the dashboard that says we're moving the needle."

He is also excited for the next step, which begins in London on Sunday against the Bills in the first game to ever be streamed by the NFL live for free on Yahoo. It was an expansion of a plan that, according to Khan, has made the Jaguars' home page one of the most popular among NFL teams, with a majority of the traffic coming from overseas.

Of course, if you're completely disrespectful of football and its reach while remaining quite comfortable in your ignorance, none of this matters. But in the real world, it matters bigtime. Smallest market; one of the most popular NFL website homepages. Very smart plan.
