Sad to see this building go empty. Also, there should be a minor correction in the article. This complex was not built for or by Florida Rock. It was originally built by Brundage Motors, serving as the company's main office and Volkswagen parts center. Brundage eventually became Brumos Porsche. Their first Porsche showroom was in Springfield, at 5th & Main.

QuoteVulcan Materials Co., which occupies a 50-year-old Springfield office complex, will relocate to Southside because it needs less space.

The Alabama-based construction materials company leases about 75,000 square feet of office space at 155-57 E. 21st St., but needs a fraction of that.

As a result, it is moving to about 10,000 square feet of office space in Deerwood South at 10151 Deerwood Park Blvd.

Vulcan Materials expects to move its 38 Jacksonville employees to the new location by the end of the year, although the timeline is still being determined.

Matt Arbuckle, who leads Florida real estate and business development for Vulcan Materials, said the Deerwood South site was chosen based on its proximity to where many of the company's employees live.

There must have been another VW sales place because I remember visiting a place that had a large vw logo in a terrazzo floor, in east springfield, not far from the mlk expressway, maybe around 8th?  not too sure.

I suspect there have been a few over the second half of the 20th century. I don't believe they were at that location for long.

I hate to see a mid-century modern building in the core go empty.  Do you think there is any prospect for a new tenant, or is this likely to go fallow like the old SCM building?

If I am thinking of the correct building, this is not in Springfield.  It's on E 21st Street, which is north of MLK.  I believe that is called MetroNorth or Brentwood??
