The GE employees relocating to Jacksonville are beginning to arrive and close on their homes before school starts.

GE is closing 2 plants in the northeast and consolidated them into the new plant.

Many existing employees at those GE facilities refused to relocate to Florida. Not sure if in all of the corporate inducements we included any relo assistance. I didnt hear if GE was providing any.

I wonder if any of those GE employees knew that by moving here with no salary increase, they would get a raise?

But what's a raise if you have to move across the country to a city you don't want to stay in? Btw, where are the closing plants located?

GE Gas & Oil is the former Dresser Inc.  GE bought out Dresser in 2011.

QuoteIn February 2011, General Electric Co. agreed to buy oil-field equipment maker Dresser Inc. for $3 billion, expanding its biggest industrial unit. GE acquired Dresser from funds managed by Riverstone Holdings LLC and First Reserve Corporation. The move significantly expanded GE's offerings for energy and industrial customers worldwide and is the latest in a series of acquisitions over the last 10 years that have transformed GE's global energy portfolio.

QuoteEmployees at General Electric's Pineville plant are preparing for life after the facility's closing, even though a company spokesperson said no final decision has been made.

"We're looking for new jobs," an employee told The Town Talk Friday.

The plant employs about 300 people and is located just off U.S. Highway 167. It was formerly operated by Dresser Inc. until GE bought that company in 2010.

Employees were recently informed of an intended restructuring that could see jobs at the Pineville plant sent to a new plant in Jacksonville, Florida. Although a spokesperson for GE said the restructuring is subject to discussions with union leadership, many employees are resigned the plant will close.

"The main thing we want to communicate is we have just announced our intention at this point," said Lindsey Benton, communications manager with GE Oil & Gas. "No final decision has been made."

There are also a some displaced GE employees from the shutdown of several plants in Massachusetts (Lynn), New York (Port Townsend).

GE had just completed moving several manufacturing operations (plating, special metals, edison bulbs) out of the NE. Some were removed  from Schenectady, NY to Atlanta, Clearwater, FL .

Some former Dresser employees at the former HQ in Addison TX aren't too pleased.
