You're invited to join a 3-day, community wide dialogue and feedback session related to University Blvd. between Ft. Caroline and Arlington roads and Merrill Rd. between University and Townsend boulevards.  We will be discussing potential safety and mobility improvements for the  study areas. And we want your input!


Wednesday, August 5th:    10 am - 8:30 am.   


The design team will be talking with the community and collecting feedback related to

future improvements. Open hours format. Come by and share your ideas when your


schedule allows.



Thursday, August 6th:  12:30 - 6 p.m.

The team will begin developing drawings for possible improvements based on the

information gathered on Monday. Observers are welcome




Friday, August 7th: 2 - 4 p.m.


The team will present its findings to the community

Here are the Minutes of a ReNew Arlington Meeting in May.  For those who want to know what the JTA is proposing to do in the Charrettes (for Arlington area), here is some additional info.  See the JTA comments.  PS - The first Charrettes are held in August.  See a post above.  The Charrette for the CRA (Community Redevelopment Area) will be held in Sept and another consulting team will present it. The consulting/ visioning team for the CRA also helped to plan the vision for the redeveloped area around FSU -- an area that was pretty much blighted and now is booming!

I.         INTRODUCTION

Karen Nasrallah started the meeting at approximately 9:00 a.m. All attendees present introduced themselves. A sign-in sheet is available upon request.

II.        JTA Update – Fred Jones, JTA

Fred Jones updated the attendees on the status of the Mobility Corridor process.  He gave an overview of the program and stated that JTA will be looking at two areas: 1) transit enhancements and, 2) complete streets.  They will include consideration for making streets more walkable, bike and pedestrian friendly, crosswalks, more efficient signalization, safety and potential for roundabouts, bulb-outs and areas for pedestrian refuge.  JTA is in the process of procuring a consultant to begin the process. He stated that they will conduct a community charrette process in late summer and will do series walking tours of the area. JTA is planning to have a plan for all corridors in the City by the end of the summer of 2016 and to have the concept for the Arlington area ready by August of 2015.

III.      Introduction of new CRA Consultant

Robert Gray gave an overview of the Strategic Planning Group, Inc. and talked about his experience with past University based studies in relation to Community Redevelopment Areas (CRA).  In particular,he referenced the Gaines Street project in Tallahassee, Florida and explained its impact on the community and Florida State University.  He explained the procedures for declaring an area as a CRA and informed the group that they will be looking for data for five most current years including:  fire, crime, Code Enforcement, real estate values and drainage.  He reported that they will need to have The Finding of Necessity Report completed for introduction to City Council on June 23rd.   Mr. Gray emphasized the importance of branding  the area, creating a logo and encouraged the attendees to participate in a branding exercise that would be scheduled in June.

IV.       Jacksonville University Update – Mike Fleming, JU

Mike Fleming gave an update on the progress at JU.  He reported about great success of University's Charter Day on April 16 and mentioned hosting an "Innovation and Education Award" with Jacksonville Business Journal.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for June 18, 2015.
