Rick Scott Screws Northeast Florida

    Going through a list of the items vetoed by the governor, News4Jax found nearly $24 million targeted for northeast Florida projects was cut, including: Yes I Copied & pasted this from channel 4
    $5 million for a youth and professional soccer facility in Jacksonville
    $3 million total for three projects connected to historical St. Augustine
    $2 million for the North Florida School of Special Education
    $2 million for Jacksonville University
    $1.5 million for the spaceport at Cecil Commerce Center
    $1.2 million for the Sulzbacher Center
    $1 million for the USS Adams Museum
    $1 million for improvements to the Mayport Ferry
    $1 million for North Fletcher Road in the city of Fernandina Beach
    $1 million for Fernandina Beach North Fletcher Basin
Plus there were other items funded for $500,000 or less for projects serving the disabled, other special need individuals and school children that add up to nearly $4 million more.

The governor said the targets of his budget vetoes were projects that either did not go through a proper process before getting added or did not have a statewide impact.

I don't think he targeted NE FL. He cut $500 million overall so I think NE FL did pretty good. Orlando lost $25 million in just two vetos.

On NPR this morning, they talked about how low Scott's approval rating is. And yet he was re-elected last year. So we get three and half more years of that creep.

Jax cleaned up. Scott pretty much vetoed any money going to private universities on the state dime so JU is not unique. From there, some small projects and the money for the USS Adams is sad but will have to wait for more lobbying efforts.

I also thought libertarians would support more vetoes and fiscal restraint?

I didn't vote for Rick Scott in his first term as Governor or his second term. I did vote for Charlie Christ the Morgan & Morgan lawyer ex Governor of Florida Republican, Independent & Democrat. Alex Sink didn't run mainly because of the death of her late husband. So we got Rick Scott for a second term What do I think of Rick Scott other then the fact he is a Bad Governor? The panhandle got pretty screwed also.  Not just private stuff, but things such as the St Marks Lighthouse, which should be covered under the state maintenance, anyway.  Now, when will we see the $400M in savings?  Where does this money now go?  Do we all get refunds?  More tax breaks for the rich/corporations?

That being said...everything can't get approved. Sometimes projects are going to get vetoed. It's a matter of budget. Basic mathematics. Just like your home budget. There is only so much that can be done with income.

I think the real focus should not be on what didn't get approved (because everything that was vetoed can be resubmitted), but what did get approved. Do we have a list of that?

While some of these vetos do make sense (the soccer facility, private colleges), some of them seem like clear politicking (USS Adams, widening Old Dixie Highway in Nassau, St. Aug historic preservation). The gubna doesn't want to seem like anything other than a fiscal conservative for his eventual run for Congress. How else would he get the nod? Party > constituents.

I agree with you here...these vetoes do not make sense. The only one that I can kinda see is the USS Adams. That is something that our fair city is trying to put together and the bulk of that cost should rest with the city, not the state. (IMO)
Infrastructure...roadways, bridges, etc should almost always be approved (again, IMO).
St Auggie...like it or not, it's a tourist attraction and it brings money to the city and the state so of course that should be taken care of (within reason).

Here is my issue. He seems to be vetoing all these items which, from the look of it, mostly seem legit and worthy, yet he is also saying he is cutting  $400 million in taxes? Shouldn't takes be going the other way now?

He got reelected because despite all of their claims to be the "real Floridians," South Florida voters couldn't be bothered to vote.
