having been dead and brought back, I can state that in my experience there was no white light, no indication of any kind of after life, maybe there's no fanfare when you are off to hell.
please to not take this as an attack on your or anyone else's beliefs, it is just my recollection of my experiences

This is commonly referred to as a near death experience.  Had you actually died, you would not be typing on your keyboard right now.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Did anyone notice that they were able to extract DNA from some of the bones and teeth found? :o

Having read the entire neanderthaler piece, I can only say that it would verify and confirm any concept I have of a supreme being.

Even in the book of Genesis, there are references to the daughters and sons of men in the valley that were unrelated to the Eve and Adam bloodline.

This has always been trotted out in defence of the apparent scriptural prescription for incest, were Adam and Eve the only beings created on Earth.

Its mostly untaught and no longer recognized despite the clarity of the reference for obvious reasons.  Every tribe and race of human in the judeo christian moslem world would be claiming sole rights of descent.

In any case, Ive always thought that the little hairless monkeys with their ridiculous constraints and rules by which they expect their creator to be bound----with absolutely no record of the creator agreeing to them to be a little obnoxious.

If God wants to screw around with different species for a few hundred thousand years of molding dna, then who in the hell are we to gainsay the prerogatives of the creator?

This, incidentally is the reasoning which caused the Pope to see no conflict between science and faith.

I think a creator of the universe should have the leisure to do things as they bloody well please.

I agree Stephen.  What kills me is that this article was never meant to indict any belief system or start a political argument.

that is not for me to say, but a blood pressure around zero, unconscious is not a good place to be. call it what you like and I said I wasn't challenging anyone's beliefs or theories, just relating my experience.

Bridge Troll, thank you for posting it, and don't despair about people having read the peice.  There are thousands of readers who never sign up and content themselves with simply reading the posts.

The jawbone of an ass ratio jumps exponentially amongst the actual posters, Ive found (and been responsible for sadly)

i was so galvanized by the advanced forensic science represented in the piece (especially the whole treatise on the importance of teeth) that I purchased and read a rather excellent book yesterday on the subject.

The newly released third edition of the Introduction to Forensic Anthropology by Steven N. Byers.

Brilliant treatise, simply brilliant.

My guess is that you must be an engineer or applied sciences guy of some sort??

Computer networks... boring... :)

btw, apvbguy, I love your new avatar footer.  Im absolutely certain that even liberals would be confused were they to find you in posession of something so unexpected as facts.  I know that I, a veritable paragon of conservative virtue, would be shocked into a near death experience myself by such an unlikely event.

if this was a real world all I'd do is shake my head and walk away, one fry short of a happy meal

BT, I read the article when you first posted it and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Its absolutely amazing what can be deduced by conducting simple tests (carbon dating) and examining ancient bones.

An example of the new spirit of civility?
