St. Johns County looks to implement one-cent sales tax

The sales tax in St. Johns County may see a slight increase – but the proceeds will go towards capital improvement projects, according to the St. Augustine Record.

County officials are asking for public input on an ordinance that includes a 1-cent sales tax increase this week. A list of projects the sales tax would benefit will be named at the public hearing, scheduled for Tuesday.

Commissioners will meet in mid-June to decide if the ordinance will go on the ballot for a vote on Nov. 3. If passed, the tax hike would go into effect on Jan. 1, 2016 and end Dec. 31, 2026.

The narrative back when a wee bit was the Growth would expand the tax base,reducing the burden on the individual,a nirvana, image ushered by "Conservatives".

And for years, DCA/Tallahassee staff knew better.
