The Jacksonville Jaguars

I'm going back in the archives here, but I get really tired of the every once in the while reoccurring commentary saying 'The Jags should've never fired Tom Coughlin'. TC is awesome coach, don't get me wrong, and I know that Weaver said he regretted firing him, but hindsight is 20/20. It's easy to regret firing Coughlin when he went on later to win two Super Bowls.

From the 14-2 in 1999, the Jags went 7-9 in 2000, and then back to back 6-10 seasons in 2001, and 2002, three strikes. The Jags fanbase was very spoiled, and season ticket sales was declining with the trifecta sub-500 seasons. With the firecoughlin.com at a fever pitch, the fans unanimously wanted a new head coach.  Bottomline business is business, and no owner of a newly established team could ignore the fans desire for a change.  Sometimes a change of scenery sparks off something special; IMO that was the case with Coughlin's Super Bowl success with the NYG.

I have to agree.  All that happened is he moved to a different organization that is run differently than the Jags organization and apparently his vision was in line with their plans and operations. When everyone is on the same page, then all is good.

I support the Jags and I love watching them, on TV and at the home games. I think that their years of suckiness just goes to show that not enough people in the organization are on the same page. We'll get there.
I could be wrong about that...it's been known to happen.

Sure, but probably the biggest thing was taking away the GM title from Coughlin. In most cases, it's good to have two different people ultimately in charge of personnel and coaching.

Totally concur with that.

The Jags made a deal with former Raiders center Stefen Wisniewski, and Marcedes Lewis gives the Jaguars a hometown discount and stays here. I like both moves.

Agreed. It especially gets security on the line. All of these free agent moves have been at "need" positions, giving the jags the freedom to draft who they wish when their turn comes up.

The Jags preseason schedule. Eh, I can't wait for the real deal schedule to be announced soon.

Saturday, Aug. 22: at New York Giants, 7:30 p.m. (Channel 4)

Friday, Aug. 28: Detroit at EverBank Field, 8 p.m. (National TV game on CBS)

Thursday, Sept. 3: at Washington, 7:30 p.m. (Channel 4)

Great preseason slate there.

Waiting for the regular season schedule so I can plan my trip to New Orleans.

Westside Guy

Looks like the Jaguars will finally be playing football in January.

Them first four games are pretty brutal, with CAR, MIA, NE, and IND. I'm over the obligatory TNF game versus the Titans; Why is that game played again (same place, same teams, same night)?

KenFSU

Love a good 4:05 start time.

Especially early in the season when the weather is blazing.

Keith-N-Jax

Need to really win those 2 home games to start.

I-10east

^^^Yup, those first two are very crucial.

It is only the 2nd year they played Tennessee on TNF. They played Houston in 2013 and Indy in 2012 (and a few times prior).
