It was only shown in 30 theaters nationally, so here you go.

The Millenium Falcon lives!

May the hype begin.

Looks interesting, considering there has not been a good star wars film since "The Empire Strkes Back" hes got a low threshold to overcome

Many, many blogs, magazines, talk shows and other outlets have debated such an issue for many a years. (Since 1983)

"Empire" stands out because it was the last SW film directed and written by someone other than George Lucas.

So what changed?

JJ Abrams is directing.

They brought back Lawrence Kasdan who developed the script for Empire.

So the next chapter of Star Wars holds alot of promise.

I was there on opening night when Star Wars debuted. The lines were so long we stood in line for the 715PM show and didnt see the start of the movie 1230AM. It was that phenomenal then.

Since MJ enjoys its history......

Here is what people thought of Star Wars back in the early 80's. (1983)

And not everyone was a fan back then.

They keep milking that cow, guess there's something left.
It will probably get worse now that Disney owns it.. I've already seen yet another re-release of the film on TV ads.

Me too!

I was surfing the blogs and comments on YouTube and its funny, everyone is saying the same thing, they hear Han Solo & Chewie and it brings a tear to their eye.

Milking the cow? No more than Disney (The Empire) does with Marvel. As long as they tell a compelling story and it stays theatrical, I don't really care how many more they make.

Besides, how many boomers are going to bust open their wallets to see their former stars in action again? How many Generation Slackers are going to come out and see if their stars can hold a light saber to the original three?

It should be a lot of fun. Even my friends who don't like action sci-fi say they want to see it.

I would imagine the same thing will happen 30 years from now, they will haul out the Avengers once again and call it "Avengers, The Age of Arthritis".  Cap America will revert to being a wimp, Thor will acquire ED, Hulk will turn into a turtle shell, Black Widow will go through menopause and Hawkeye will be wearing progressives.

The problem with continuing to milk the cow is not that they keep making good movies, it's that the last 3 were absolute crap, even by die hard fans standards.
It does a good series great disservice to keep making films if they are bad (see the last Indiana Jones).
But I guess people keep paying to see them and all the re-releases with half a second of new footage or they wouldn't do it.

I skipped school and made the papers for spending the night at the movie theater (the old regency twin) in order to get tickets for the first showing of Return of the Jedi (my friend Ginny had posters for the "Revenge of the Jedi") and am a lifelong star wars geek.  I loved the second series, and thought they were better than the first in almost every way.

Not only was Lucas able to explore the Republic Serials inspirations of the series more fully, but he had a better sense of timing and much more magnificent technology.

I can't wait for the new ones.

You're pretty much alone in that thought, at least according to IMDB:
A New Hope - 8.7 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076759/?ref_=nv_sr_2
The Empire Strikes Back 8.8 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080684/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_14
Return of the Jedi 8.4 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086190/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_15

and then....
Phantom Menace 6.6 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120915/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_11
Attack of the Clones 6.8 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0121765/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_16
Revenge of the Sith 7.7 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0121766/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_12

So overall, not great. 7.7 is not a bad score, but 6.6 just doesn't live up to the legacy of the series.

As a fan wouldn't you rather it end on high note rather than suffer further?

Edit: The holidays special from 1978 is a 2.6!!!! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0193524/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_25 ) So I guess they've always milked this thing as much as possible, but it still gets "nerd credit." So I guess this is really nothing new :)

I think most of the fans would agree with me.

I like the Star Wars movies. I don't care what the critics think about them.

The Christmas Special is the reason Harrison Ford refused to even appear at fan conventions. He finally started doing charity events aligned with Star Wars just a few years ago. That "special" really soured it for many people.

The Star Trek movie franchise suffered a similar fate of stale releases, but JJ Abrams and Bad Robot did a great job reviving it.

I do know that JJ Abrams is no slouch and will give this next set of films the proper treatment.

There is no way Harrison Ford would have been involved if he didnt think it passed his bogus test. He knows his legacy is tied just as much to SW as it is to Indiana Jones.

As far as more milk from the cow......Disney has already announced stand alone spinoff movies like they are doing with the Marvel comics.
