Kudos to Jimmy Holderfield in doing the "right" thing instead of being Sheriff Rutherford's goat.

Good on him. We'd all be in a lot better shape as a country if people voted for the best candidate, rather than whomever is in their favorite party.

QuoteRobin Lumb, who is chairman of the Republican Party in Duval County, was also there. He said Holderfield signed a party loyalty oath just last year, and Thursday that oath was broken.

"We are extra extraordinarily disappointed with the decision that Jimmy Holderfield made today," Lumb said. "It simply inexplicable. This is an agency that (is) supposed to be chock-full of leaders; that's what the whole purpose is behind their training and their rise through the ranks. (It's) to find the right leaders in the right positions that can do the job and eventually can run and serve the sheriff of Duval County.

Apparently Robin Lumb carries no support on MJ any longer, as no one has written that Lumb is right. Holderfield took Republican support and funds and then said "screw you", and I am taking my campaign to Jefferson. Well, with Holderfield you get the crazies who take Mike Williams signs and all the other stuff Holderfield allowed to go on.

Enjoy your new bed Jefferson.

^ and with Williams, we get the status quo.  He is endorsed by Rutherford and has said on several occasions that JSO is not top heavyand that he doesn't think they need to revise their procedures following shootings.

No thanks!

If there is one thing I am happy about, so far, it's our choices for Sheriff. I am leaning towards the establishment guy, Williams.

Jefferson's promise of dropping crime by 25 percent is a potential for total mismanagement of crime in our city. It can create the wrong incentives. I don't want Jefferson and the police under him to look the other way in order to drive down numbers. Kind of like college campuses and rape crimes!

Then again, it may also mean police will use a better judgement and not arrest everyone just because they can.

Maybe Mayor Brown will come out and Support Ken Jefferson......that would be the kiss of death!

+1 , 25%, from where and how? Rainbows and Candy Canes?

'Loyalty Oaths"? I'm not invoking Hilter's name but how many totalitarian regimes, communist nations, dictators demand Loyalty Oaths from their supporters?

I'm glad Holderfield is taking a personal position, instead of party line.  Non-partisan elections should involved this kind of stuff.

Officers being allowed to use more common sense and policy that would de-criminalize simple, victemless misdemeanors would make for a pretty solid start.

Edit:  Then I read this and completely agree...
