More air traffic for Cecil Field....

QuotePreparations are well underway at Cecil Airport, which will get a busy new tenant this summer: The U.S. Navy.
As Naval Air Station Jacksonville plans to improve its runway, taxiway and airfield lighting, staff and aircraft will be relocated to Cecil Airport, where a support detachment can operate.

The lease agreement between the Navy and Cecil is for at least one year, with a six month option that will likely be used, said Steve Grossman, CEO of the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, at a recent board meeting.

So far, 4,000 employees, contractors and personnel have been badged for the facility.
"Cecil could well be in the 10 busiest airports for that year," Grossman said.

Overstreet

Which should really make for interesting traffic on both Roosevelt, 103rd and Normandy.

I am over the construction of SR 23.  You cannot get from the west side (way, way westside) into town without being aggravated by the construction on 103rd, Normandy, and New World.  And if you're lucky enough to get to 10 East, the construction in Marietta is no fun to deal with.

The Navy has never stopped using Cecil Field, so the "new tenant" line is blatantly untrue. T-45 Goshawk and T-44A Pegasus training aircraft fly in and out of Cecil, from Pensacola, all the time to do flight training and touch-and-go's on aircraft carriers off the coast. C-2 Greyhound aircraft, used to ferry people and mail aboard ship, also fly in and out of Cecil, rather than NAS Jax.

In any case, repairs at NAS Jax are overdue by a long shot. I'm actually surprised this hasn't happened sooner. Although, I do feel that it's still a shame that Cecil was shutdown during the Base Realignment and Closure Commission.
