Not to mention that I am a Democrat that votes for just as many Republicans in this town and Democrats.  Stupid and corruption is not limited to party.

From Stephen's opinion piece (emphasizing opinion), evidently his liberal view that one's possible affiliation with the Tea Party and one's view against corrupt government and runaway taxes is a VERY bad thing.   The title should be "Warning: Another Liberal's OPINION".  For everyone else, keep waiting for journalism, but not from him.

I don't think his "editorial" / gossip piece has anything to do with a liberal or conservative persprective, just his personal biases or agenda.

you sound sore that so many people contributing to the demolition of springfield got named, mr SPAR President.

Well obviously. You wouldn't say it if it wasn't true, of course.

New here, but having a hard time not imagining the pearl clutchers going a little crazy over the interesting and fun article.  I happen to agree with the article, while easily adding 20 more.  People in politics elected to an office criticizing government is like pediatricians hating kids.  Why did you get involved and want to continue to be involved?   I don't find these people successful in their time in office.  Make the change you want to try, but don't disparage the the instrument you use.

There's nothing wrong with someone elected to an office criticizing the government. Your analogy of pediatricians doesn't work here. Think about it - government is involved in just about every aspect of our lives one way or another. How on earth do you change it? Well, you have to be elected and work on changing it from the inside through proposed legislation. A huge problem we have today - and a lot of this is actually specific to today's Republican party - is that they run on a campaign to reduce the bloated size of our government, disguising themselves as conservatives. Yet once they are in office, the temptation of being a big government politician is just too tasty to pass up and they are immediately sucked into the corruption they originally campaigned against.

I agree there could be more added to the list

anyone that watches the local government even a little bit would know there is a lot of truth to the characterizations of those mentioned

...I do think it is presented in extremely bad taste.

...calling elected officials a "jack ass" loses credibility. Shame too, this is not the way to be taken seriously IMO.

Hard to take any of this serious. Just a regressive (nothing progressive about it) whining and name-calling.

And exactly what is wrong with being against higher taxes? Are you voluntarily paying more because you believe you should? Bet not.

As for "historic buildings," they are all historic, so don't let any be torn down. Let's all live in old houses and work in old factories because absolutely nothing should be torn down. All historic designations do is destroy private ownership. The city, which didn't spend a single dime building any of these buildings, suddenly decides that they should dictate to the owner what, and how, they can do to their own building. In other words, true private ownership is destroyed, but the "owner" gets to pay the bill for the city's directions.
