9 People Who Shouldn't Even Run For DogCatcher in Jax

Just a partial and wildly incomplete list of the annoying, alarming, and asinine people involved in local government that we wish would go away. No particular order, and selected for a wide variety of reasons.  Robin Lumb, surprisingly did not make this list.

Wow.  I don't necessarily disagree with the overall content of this article I do think it is presented in extremely bad taste.  Calling Jim Love a pillow biter?  Really Metrojax?  Keep it classy.

Why is hating government and taxes a bad thing?
If you work for / represent the government.....

That's a bit like an employee hating salaries, isn't it  ;)

QuoteMoments like demanding that a moslem candidate for Human Rights Council 'pray to your god' in front of the city council.

When calling someone out for being an ignorant bigot over a religion different from his own, perhaps it is best to use the  term preferred by adherents to that religion: "Muslim" (and capitalized).

QuoteAccording to the Center for Nonproliferation Studies,"Moslem and Muslim are basically two different spellings for the same word." But the seemingly arbitrary choice of spellings is a sensitive subject for many followers of Islam. Whereas for most English speakers, the two words are synonymous in meaning, the Arabic roots of the two words are very different. A Muslim in Arabic means"one who gives himself to God," and is by definition, someone who adheres to Islam. By contrast, a Moslem in Arabic means"one who is evil and unjust" when the word is pronounced, as it is in English, Mozlem with a z. - See more at: http://historynewsnetwork.org/article/524#sthash.77Rd7sP3.dpuf

Or a pediatrician who hates children.

I've been waiting for this article for a long time.  Great job!  Can we add another 20 to the list?

I will say this.. hard to argue with the list itself. And while I feel Stephen occasionally goes off the rails with some of his rants, he always has me pulling out my dictionary to look up words that I either don't use regularly or don't know at all. After 30 years in journalism, I appreciate that continuing challenge.

From Stephen's opinion piece (emphasizing opinion), evidently his liberal view that one's possible affiliation with the Tea Party and one's view against corrupt government and runaway taxes is a VERY bad thing.   The title should be "Warning: Another Liberal's OPINION".  For everyone else, keep waiting for journalism, but not from him.

Well that's usually how it goes these days. No need to debate against what the Tea Party stands for - just pull out the standard "racists!" and "homophobes!" comments and be done with it. Hooray for big government, champion of the people!

Agreed, while this is posted in the opinion section (rightfully so), calling elected officials a "jack ass" loses credibility. Shame too, this is not the way to be taken seriously IMO.

I don't think his "editorial" / gossip piece has anything to do with a liberal or conservative persprective, just his personal biases or agenda.

New here, but having a hard time not imagining the pearl clutchers going a little crazy over the interesting and fun article.  I happen to agree with the article, while easily adding 20 more.  People in politics elected to an office criticizing government is like pediatricians hating kids.  Why did you get involved and want to continue to be involved?   I don't find these people successful in their time in office.  Make the change you want to try, but don't disparage the the instrument you use.

A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I agree.  If you want less government, then don't be a politician... save everyone the irony!  Throw Bill Bishop and Richard Clark into the mix!
