I think he has a good game. Would not be surprised to see him hit 300 yards. Not sure I see a win but it will be closer than most think.

Eric Weddle may bait him into a pick or two but I think he'll do ok. Unfortunately, I also believe Philip Rivers will eat the Jags secondary alive.

My prediction is that we play a close game.  We'll probably go down by 14-17 points by the end of the 3rd quarter and then get another 7-10 in garbage time, making the score look closer than it actually is.

Bortles will be 20 of 35ish for about 250 yds. and another 40-50 on the ground.

I think that DRob is going to have a monster day - over 100 total yds while Gerhart should be in the 70-85 range.

Our defense will play better than they have, but Rivers looks fantastic right now and will be able to pick us apart, as Lake said.  I think you'll see us play a lot of Cover-1, allowing our SS playing shallow center field to help the LBs out in coverage.  Much needed against a TE like Gates who will create an automatic mismatch.  This will probably put our CBs in a lot more man-to-man, so let's see how good they really are.  It also make each man on defense more accountable for A guy as opposed to AN area of the field which can help prevent missed assignments.

Bortles looks like the real deal and his receiving corp could be solid.

But the rest of the offense is bad. No running game, no push from the line.

And the defense (outside of Bryant, Marks and Cyprien) is embarrassing.

Bradley is a defensive coach and his defense looks clueless.

Well, I had that backwards.  We actually kept it competitive in the first half and then lost it after halftime.

29/37 253 & 24 - I was pretty close on this one.  We didn't throw downfield as much as I anticipated and the WRs actually made some catches that they normally wouldn't.  I'll take it.

Fuck.  'Nuf said.

This is getting painful to watch.  2 WRs over 100yds.  We held them to under 50 yds on the ground, but that makes it even worse in my opinion.  You can't dominate their running game and still give up almost 400 yards in the air (377) and expect to win.  Pathetic.

We definitely seem to be a team that can only play one half.  I'm not sure why.  I'm not sure what we need to do to fix it, but we have to start putting together 60 minutes of play.  Hell, I'd even settle for 45 minutes right now.

PROGRESS!

I'll take it.

Only three sacks allowed, and Bortles posted the highest first game completion percentage in NFL history for a rookie.

copperfiend

Bortles gives the team some hope for the future. Without him, it would be bleak.

Our boys just get tired in the second half.....
Don't argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference

There is hope. It will get better. I wasn't even upset with the two interceptions. Bortles just might be the answer. We aren't going to win many games this year but with a few more decent players next year who knows? As disappointing as it is to watch them lose, Bortles makes watching the games interesting again. Just imagine if he was on a much better team. He would probably win ROY. I'm smitten!

pierre

I know it is a short sample size but I believe Bortles has star potential. When I see him play, he has a lot of same attributes as Andrew Luck, Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger. I know the other pieces are not here yet but he is a glimmer of hope.

avonjax

Pierre I think you are correct. I think we have a star. When the defense and O-line are corrected we will have a contender. He will only get better and his first start was a very strong one. Win or lose if Bortles plays well it will at least be fun to watch the games again.

MusicMan

Team management must utilize free agency or it will take forever to make the playoffs.

Going strictly through the draft will not cut it.

We have Storm Johnson, who in combination with Bortles at UCF made that program's offense much more viable.  Why not just put him in?  He certainly is comfortable with his starting QB.
