Jaguars fans take anger to Twitter after NFL cracks joke about London move

Ashley Gurbal Kritzer
    Reporter- Jacksonville Business Journal

Jacksonville Jaguars fans' furor on social media over a slight from the NFL has grabbed the attention of the Washington Post.

The National Football League took a shot at the Jags in a summary of Week 10 matchups, including the Jaguars versus the Dallas Cowboys, to be played in London.

SBNation.com posted a screenshot of the original message, the last line of which said, "The London Jaguars does have an excellent ring to it."

The Week 10 summary has since been edited, and that line has been removed.

And while the WaPo blogger couldn't help but knock the Jags too — starting off the post with "There may not be many of them, but Jacksonville Jaguars fans let their presence be known" — she was impressed by the ire fans displayed on Twitter.

As someone who's been on the receiving end of Jaguars fans' Twitter rage — after this May 2013 story in which I described the Bold City Brigade as "anti-Tebow,"— I too can attest: They're a very passionate group.

So much for NFL.com being professional...I guess that the dumbass was so busy trying to sneak in the little Jacksonville diss, they didn't even get the info right, saying the the Cowboys game is going to be the 1st of 4 Jag games in the Int'l series, when it is the 2nd. That a-hole should be fired. The repulsiveness of the national media, and even the league itself will never surprise me.

Well, the Jaguars' website editor went straight to the VP of nfl.com, and John Caputo from BCB went straight to the NFL's PR dept., and they got immediate results, so maybe there will be repercussions for whoever put that line into the story.

One thing about our fans, we will lash out at you for disrespecting us. I remember I was ESPN last year and they were talking about the Jags, and the one guy tried to make a joke about us, but the other black guy told him to watch it because Jags fans are vicous LOL But yeah, the lame ass jokes are getting old and are not funny.

It was Cris Carter.  He said something like "Don't mess with Duval; their fans are tougher than the team is."  But that didn't stop him from making a bad attendance joke when Brad Meester inadvertently pulled that Chiefs lineman's pants down.

Is that the one he got blasted on twitter for?

No, he got blasted on Twitter long before that for a rant about how Jacksonville couldn't support a team and how he was just using "real talk" and no one should get mad at him.

Just guessing that the Jaguars going to the league got action taken more than someone from the Bold City Brigade.

I really feel that there should be a fine line of making an article entertaining, and constantly harassing, taunting, and belittling a city or team. We are all part of the NFL and should be shown some level of respect. And if NFL.com represents the NFL, this kind of crap needs to stop.

All that said, who are picking at number 3?

:)

Saw an interesting mock draft at Yahoo that had the Jags taking Khalil Mack with the number three pick, and then trading up to take Teddy Bridgewater.

Don't see that happening, but I'd take it :D

funwithteeth

Bridgewater probably isn't being taken with either of the first two picks, so I don't see that happening.

I would be surprised if the third pick is not Mack or Watkins. I can see the appeal of both and I think it's one of those deals where its hard to lose with either. Similar to Von Miller and AJ Green in 2011.

Oh, I'm sure of it, but credit to Caputo (and to the PR dept., for that matter): he got a very quick Twitter response from NFL PR saying it agreed with our grievance.
